How should I service my 4311b crossover?

Ok, I will gently proceed with block and hammer. And if that doesn't work, I'l give it a big ole smash and bust everything loose :rockon:

I was able to get the mids out earlier today, one is working great, the other one has a lot of rub and while it's making noise, it's quite a bit quieter than it's counterpart. I was able to snag a pretty clean pair of LE5-6 mids on ebay for a great price so I went ahead and pulled the trigger. According to the LE5 matrix over at the Lansing forum, the 5-6 and 5-10 are essentially identical. I'll probably see if I can get rid of my 5-10's. I think if I wait a little while and keep them up on the bay, I might actually be able to make money on this swap.

Until I can figure out what the problem is with the one tweeter, my plan is to source a replacement at a price low enough that I can get rid of it quick if my current one turns out to be ok. Just covering my bases.

So after today I think I'll just need to buy new Lpads as mine sound like sand. They look quite a bit more expensive than potentiometers, I was not aware of that. I'm going to search around and see if there is a thread on just using resistor values to hard wire to the "5" position on the dial. I like the idea of just setting and leaving it.
 
I used a flexible spackle scraper and hammered the end of if to pop off the tweeter. Worked perfectly. Love that little scraper, it's got a million uses.

So I've purchased caps, mids, and a tweeter just waiting for things to come in. I probably won't document my refurb to in depth as its already been done for these speakers.

Here's a question: I've seen these really sexy black metal stands for JBL monitors. I can't figure out where to find a pair of them, but they look so good and I'd love to find some. Any tips on where? Here's a few pics I nabbed from image search:

Hmm, never seen those stand before, and definitely not something JBL made. Look nice though. Sorta makes the speakers look a little robotic like the robot helpers on Bruce Dern's Space movie Silent Running.

Received my replacement tweeter this weekend, and I recapped using Dayton Precision caps (black and white, 1% tolerance). Found some appropriate stands for these beasts on CL locally and my mids finally came in the mail.

Hooked things up and I've been spinning Hendrix and Zeppelin remasters and WOW :jump:
These are definitely not as easy to listen to as my Infinities, and they take a few minutes to adjust to their aggressive feel, but GEEZ do these things slam when they're cranked. I cannot help but bob my head. Basically I keep turning them up little by little until I get a noise complaint; I'm amazed I haven't gotten one yet

Haven't played anything too complex or delicate yet, some Miles and Beck will pop up eventually from my FLAC library I'm sure. But first I want to hear some live Dinosaur JR and Pearl Jam remasters. hehehe

Running an SL1400 with Grado MT+ cart through an NAD PP-1 into an op amp pre and a JBL UREI power amp. Crankin'
