JBL 4311b or L1

Got a chance to buy a pair of 4311b's or L1's. I own a pair of JBL L100A Century speakers that I bought new in 1977. Love 'em, although I have the brilliance turned all the way down. Mainly listen to classic rock on vinyl. These would go in my 24X40 shop. Anybody's advice would be appreciated.

I love the L1 and it would probably have the edge in terms of treble with it's much newer 035Ti tweeter. With that said, you are comparing a big speaker with history behind it to a very small speaker which is from a series that, while it more than holds it's own, is much less well known. The 4311b is clearly worth more. If nothing else, you could get the 4311b, sell it, and likely have enough to buy 5 pairs of L1 speakers.

Since you have L100As, you inherently know the sound of the 4311B. They share the same drivers, cabinet volume and tuning, and crossover network, just with a different baffle arrangement. Pretty much identical sonics.

Regards,
Gordon.

What are the prices of each?
The L1 is probably the best JBL available in that size range, certainly the best in the 6.5-inch woofer category, and that includes the 18ti with the fancy 044ti tweeter. The L1 has a rich, full sound that plays well beyond what their size might suggest. I actually like it over the L3, and I have at least one pair of each of the L-series models.

Well, guys, thanks for the advice, but I've had to abandon plans to add to my speaker collection. My lovely wife tried to load her BMW onto the trailer a guy in front of her was hauling without lowering the tailgate. Fortunately, she wasn't hurt but there's a $1,000 deductible that will deplete my speaker budget.
