jbl 4312 midrange dustcaps

I was wondering how critical are the dust caps on the jbl 4312 midrange drivers le 512?

I have a pair where the midrange appears to work but the caps were pushed in.

I didnt have any luck with vacuum but was able to improve by using duct tape to pull it out. When i got them more outward, i see there is a small hole which i covered with epoxy.

Im not sure if i should bite the bullet and replace the caps yet.

How much will crumpled dustcaps effect the driver?

Personally, I wouldn't worry about it much. It's more about aesthetics and protecting the voice coil from dust and debris. If you don't mind how it looks and it's still covering the voice coil, leave it.

I’m curious as well as one of my 4312a mids have a pushed in cap as well. I can say that with a mono signal I can’t tell any difference between the two so I figure it’s not critical. My .02...
