In order to free up some space in my current listening area I decided to place my pair of JBL 4312a upright. This places the mid and tweeter drivers on the same horizontal plane, but frees up a little floor space. According to JBL , measurements are pretty close between vertical and horizontal placement, but I can honestly say I was appalled what my ears were hearing. I tested with multiple tracks and had to shut my system down and return to the prior configuration. Bass was over emphasized, midrange and highs were smeared and harsh, lost depth and sound stage…very unpleasant.
If you have a pair of JBL 4312A and haven’t tried side placement (tweeter on top & woofers on the outside), give it a try, you may be in for a pleasant surprise. I should have taken pics with grills off.
