Ok just purchased some JBL 4313b's from a local musician who had a home recording studio. Paid $140 for pair. I almost did not take them because they had the 066 tweeters replaced with the newer Ti models as one of the 066 went bad about 4yrs ago & he wanted them back in service asap. The woofers were reformed when tweeters were replaced. He had them sitting in corner in his apartment not in service, told me take them for 140 & if I did not like them bring 'em back. They have no Grills as he never used them in the studio and he thought his mom threw them out years ago.
So, I bring them home & hook them up to a old Sansui AU-517 I have in the den. I am very please and maybe the best $140 ever spent on audio. :banana: I believe these are going to replace the L112's in my main system as soon as I find some Grills.
Now to the reason for post. If anyone knows a source for Grills it would be appreciated. But what I would really like to do is make grills that match the Fabric on my L212 system as that is the location where they will end up. Any known Sources for L212 grill Type Fabric !!!!!!
And No I do not think they sound better than the L212 system but then again they are not yet being driven by a Yam B-2 Vfet as the 212's & 112's are. And for those who think that L212's are not one of the best home systems ever from JBL then you do not have them setup right. I own mine since new in Jan 79. They are very picky about placement and came with a 45prm record with various white noise tests for proper setup. I drive them with a B-2 Vfet and they are one speaker I will never Sell.

You might have to make some ...I have a set that we can take measurements from as I know finding some of these would be rather difficult :yes:
 
Very nice speakers, wish I hadn't sold mine. Worth finding the correct tweeters unless those ti. tweeters have very similar sensitivity and frequency response.

If you check this page, you can see that JBL recommends the 052Ti as an equivalent replacement (probably an upgrade) for both the 066 and the 035Ti, so as far as I can tell, those three tweeters (among several others) are basically interchangeable in JBL's view:

It is difficult to get fabric similar to the 70s/early 80s JBL fabric. One member on lansingheritage had some made custom, in a dark blue color. I bought some and it is the same weave. I don't know if he still has any, and I'm having trouble recalling his name. Let me do a search and see what I can find.

The 066 were replaced with the JBL 052Ti Tweeter what was recommended
from JBL (Google jbl 052Ti for sale) actually more expensive than 066 I think. I like the sound of the Ti tweeter but I have the original 066's just one needs repaired. May someday will have it done but like how they sound now with the Newer tweeters. And I always believed If it ain't broke don't fix it.

Diaphragm for 066 is NLA, you would have to find a complete tweeter I think.

The 052 _is_ pretty nice. I don't think the mounting is the same at all though, how does it look? Might be hard to go back, I would think the screw holes would be visible if you did.

The best part about the 052 is that it is still rebuild-able. Even the foam damping under the dome is easy to replace if it goes bad, which it will.

I have 4412A's sitting on L-166's, and find that the 052's just barely beat the 066's on the extreme top end, they both sound great! (I prefer the mirrored 4412A's most days, the L's get fewer and fewer plays it seems...)

035's are a different story, most of them probably have foam rot and some of them sound kinda tizzy to me. Probably what people mean when they say that Ti tweeters are "harsh".

Just a _little_ odd not seeing the silver face of the 066 in there.

Make sure there are no air leaks through the old mounting holes.

No, from the pic here:

You can see one of the three original 066 mounting holes peeking out from behind the 052, which uses 4 screws.

Totally different mounting scheme as well. The 066 is rear mounted, with long machine screws that go through the baffle, while the 035 & 052 are front mounted with shorter (usually) wood screws.
 
IMHO, they sound significantly better with the 035Ti or 052Ti, than with the 066. It's a significant upgrade.

What you have, IMHO, with the modded 4313Bs, is about the best-sounding JBL speaker with a 10" woofer, from that era. Especially after the tweeter upgrade...
