JBL 4425 Studio Monitors...........

Hi all,
I will be picking up a pair of JBL 4425 studio monitors soon from a recording studio. But speakers have some issue, woofers have gone bad, they need reconing. Tweeters work fine, cabinet is in very good condition without scratches or damage. Guy asking $475 for this pair. I came across SS Audio Recone kit for JBL 2214H.

Is it worth buying? need your valuable inputs.

The price is right, even reasonable! Much love for the 4425 here, nice monitor. Rich Cobb also has the foams.
 
Not sure what the market is for them in India.

Why do you think they need reconing - are there holes in the woofers?
Burned up voice coils?

ReCONING is a bigger deal than refoaming ...
Have you ever reconed a pair of speakers before?
I don't do that task, but you might want to find a pro to do that for you.

Otherwise - seems like a good price for some smaller monitors.

Any details on what exactly happened to the woofers? I'm just curious how they failed, since my JBL L100T speakers use the same 2214H woofers. I have had one situation where the spider began to separate from the frame.

Market is good for vintage JBL's in India.

There are no holes on the woofer, they look good but they are shaking terribly. I will check whether they need new surrounds or cone.
I am going to test it with an amp this Saturday, hope the voice coil is intact.

Reconing is not an issue here, we have lot of pro who can handle that. Thanks for the brochure link. I will keep you updated on this.

They have used it extensively for 20 odd years and from past 5 years they are not using them, gathering dust :)

Hi Anil,

Be sure you check to see if they just need new foam, and not a new cone. 475 USD? Nice, the last set of 4425s that showed up in my area were just under a grand.

Hope you get them!

I've been to Bangalore some 6 or so years ago to teach professional skills classes at one of the high tech companies there. Had a wonderful time and met some really interesting people.

Congratulations on the JBL's, it appears you have them up and running again with new foam surrounds. I've had them myself and regret selling them.

What do you have to drive them with? Vintage gear as popular in India as the states?
