JBL 4435 in crosshairs....trigger pull? 3k

Anyone care to share any thoughts on a pair of local 4435's for 3k? Are these top of the JBL food chain or close to it. They are all original with a "few scratches" here and there. They were in a recording studio and then in a church. I am considering them but is a lot of money. Maybe i should wait and see if i can get them for less if he is having trouble selling? Thanks in advance for thoughts.

Check condition of drivers. Being over 30 years old drivers can deteriorate. Anything that requires rebuild is better to be avoided if you are after original sound.
 
Woowee. That will buy you a lot of nice speakers. However those are beauties! You'll have to weigh how often you see these come up for sale vs privilege of ownership.
When I went to an estate sale this gent was dickering around at the price of full rack Kenwood stereo. Reel to reel, tape, amp, pre the whole shebang. A beauty. He was hung up on $400 difference on what they wanted vs what he wanted to pay. All in pristine working condition.
I was watching a guy out of the corner of my eye seeing him turn over this miniature statue and that but not really interested.
So the first gent left without saying anything mumbling it's to high.
The second gent promptly bought it. Smart move. The first came back about 15 minutes later wanting to buy it. $400, 30 years and 15 minutes to late.
Here's my thoughts. Money, I can make more of. Maybe work extra overtime, hustle at odd jobs. Your JBL 4435 they ain't making it anymore. If they were (depending on condition) $2500 you'd buy them in a heartbeat correct? Don't let $500 stop you.
$3k Mint. No repairs needed drivers ok, surrounds excellent condition, smoke free etc. Yes get em.

What Rxonmymind just said... but I will add, go see them and listen to them. However he/she may not have the electronics to give them justice. I wouldn't sell mine for $3000, maybe 5K or 6K but I still might regret it down the road. I'd go with $3K in my pocket and see what I could do but I'd be willing to pay it if that's what it took. The only way I won't own mine 10 years from now is if they won't fit through the door when we downsize into a new home.
 
one thing i should have on my side is the seller re cones and sells foam kits speakers for a living. So i would expect all to be in working order.
 
As others have said if your absolutely hung up on owning those great JBL's then you can justify spending that amount of money,but there are soo many other options to attain that quality of sound for far less money..TETO

Hunter00 please list me 3 or 4 so I can consider them in the future, no sarcasm, I really want to know. But first have you heard the 4435's and also the ones you are going to recommend?

If you have a room where a quad of 15" woofers can breathe, take the plunge. My ears are young and can still hear 20k+ but they don't feel like they're missing anything with the rolloff of these horns. If yours do, it's easy to suppliment with a pair of 2404H.

If they're in good shape (condition, condition, condition!) and the proper woofers are in place, it'll be hard to lose money on reselling later.

If this is the case, I would make doubly sure that the 2234H woofers all have the correct and true JBL factory recone kits, NO aftermarket kits in these woofers, same for the compression driver diaphragms unless they are Radians. If you're going to pay good money, you want OEM JBL parts to get JBL performance. Condition of the cabinets will also play a role in pricing as it sounds like these were moved around some and we don't know what issues are with the veneers, horn finish, and the like. If you're good with woodwork or refinishing, you can make them quite beautiful, but factor those costs and some of your time in the negotiations.

Search AK for Zonker92's thread on his restoration of 4435's that I formerly owned. It will blow you away, figuratively and literally. Good luck!
