JBL 4507 Cabinets

The vinyl did shrivel up. I placed a strip of Reynolds on the cab and made a few passes with the iron distributing the heat across the foil. I did a small area at a time (10"X10") too much heat makes it very soft and it breaks. With just enough heat the vinyl stretches and it comes off nicely. Without the foil it will melt the vinyl and just stick to the iron.
Just about ready for a finish couple holes to fill and some sanding.

Thanks for the tip, I was wondering how to get that crap off!

I just couldn't help it, I had to take these cabs in for a test run this weekend. I put them in the system for the first time and so far I like what I'm hearing. Clean deep but tight bass lines no boomeiness. I am using a crossover point of 250Hz but I think I'll change to 350Hz. Any recommendations on a crossover point for the 2235H will be appreciated.

Anywhere up to ~1 kHz will be fine with 2235H

For 4430esque tuning, close one port in each with ZilchPlugz™.

For sub duty, close two....

Russelll is correct, of course. I removed this and installed two front to back braces one each between a top port and woofer cut out.
I'm sure things are certainly not 'tranquil' at your place, Tranquil!

Can't believe its been a year since I started this project. However, I got some work done this summer. Acquired two additional 4507 cabs that also needed edges repaired and a refinish. I did the same procedure with the 1/2" Oak strips and removed the old vinyl, worked out fine. I saved the logos on this pair. I attached some pics.

There is no reason to add extra bracing. The cabs are VERY solid!

Hey, those turned out very nice, Anthony! The 4507 has turned out to be a "go-to" all purpose cab for me also. I've run everything from 2226, 2235, E145 and even Gauss 15's in them with great results.


Id love to find another pair around here just to have them available for horsing around. Even a single would be nice to pair up the remaining one I have.

JBL used 290 Hz in the 4344 studio monitor (to a 10" midbass). That always seemed to work well. So, you're in the right ballpark.

I did change to the 350Hz and I think it's an improvement. The 2235 seems to be more involved resulting in nice tight bass lines. I'll pick up a couple zilch plugs and play around with the tuning soon.
These cabs came completely lined with fiber glass. I'm considering removing the lining from one side and the bottom. I did this on my Model 19 and the bass seemed less restricted. I also read lining three sides avoids standing wave forms in the cabinet.

RC: I'm happy with the 4507. Small footprint, well built also looks and sounds good. I always wanted to partner the 604 with a helper woofer, these cabs saved me from having to build completely new cabs. The second pair was the best deal I ever got on Ebay they were 20 mins. from home and I was the only bidder. I prefer to think of them as a gift.
