JBL C-38s - 3 way?

Hi Chris,
When I added the 2405's to my 200B's, I didn't want to cut holes in the cabs, so I built enclosures that sat on top. I can get a pic if you're interested.

I think you sent me a photo- but you should add it here for the threads sake. How did you integrate the tweeter? Crossover? Capicitors? Magic?

I built new crossovers. Attached is a better pic of the tweeters. My flash quit working on my crappy camera, had to take it outside for a shot. I used 6" pvc sewer pipe and glued on walnut veneer.

Very cool! What did you use for end caps?

The body is the green 6" sewer pipe that fits the 2405 perfectly. The end caps are just some scrap wood I had laying around, and I used a hole saw for the speaker reveal. I used regular walnut veneer on the cylinder first and then veneered the ends. The back comes off for service, but the front is permanent. I finished with 3 coats of tung oil.
Anyway, I didn't mean to hijack your thread. 2405's are still somewhat reasonable on the bay, and could be added on your c38's using the capacitor method. You don't need a fancy enclosure. When I tried mine I used an L shaped piece of plywood with a hole drilled in it.

075/077/2402/2405 holders and stands come up from time to time on the bay from various vendors made just for this purpose. These have a "Buy it Now" for $312.73 (without the 075s), but others can be had for much, much less.

Think of the cost to fill a pair of these.

I'm liking those red stained ones. Would look good in walnut.

Agreed.

I like being able to see the magnet assembly, assuming it is in pristine condition. Now everything is plastic and you don't see that kind of quality anymore.

You gotta show it off if you've got it.

A nice looking stand would not be too difficult for me to manufacture. My first desire would be to get the tweeter in the cabinet.

The hunt is on...

Okay, now that I've got some 2405s on the way, I'll need to order some parts.

Does anyone have brand manufactures for the Capacitors, L-Pad, and resistors?

Got some Jantzen Caps, Dayton Resistors, and Parts Express L-Pads - now I wait and research subwoofers...

Well!

I got everything ordered, shipped, received, and now installed!

The addition of the 2405s added a wonderful amount of clarity - I am very happy.

I also am using a POLK PSW505 crossed around 90hz.

Things are sounding very nice in my living room. Thank you all for the help!

Next step - Paint the new backs and refinish the cabinets.
