JBL C50 questions

So, I’ve got my S7Rs and a little extra cash to try and upgrade to some S8Rs fully upgraded. My small knowledge is that S8rs with blue components is fully upgraded.
My S7R cabinet is gorgeous perfect. Grills are flawless, top has no scratches and has gorgeous wood patina. So my question is, am I crazy. I love how they sound but am I just being a romantic and could spend my money WAY wiser. I like because they sound amazing and also a “sound” investment.
Thoughts?
What makes the blue speaks so valuable?
My cabs don’t have a hole for the radiator, are the front “templates” made to change out as I think the s8r and s7r are the same dimensions? If so should I try and source a template and try and find all the components myself? Is that a horrible idea in terms of installing and getting all the components to “sing” together? And would that be a lot more expensive?
What other options are there for the range of: selling my s7rs + 3-4k? Both sound and keeps its price or even may become more collectible.

I know…. Pretty tough problem to have.

that’s also on my mind. Maybe upgrade my turntable??? I don’t know. It sounds amazing. Why am i in a perpetual upgrade by loop
Has the audiophile community come up with a term for that? Stuck upgrading?

Hi Chris,
I have a set of C50s that have the blue drivers I don't think there is any difference in them sound wise, but not sure. I am partial to the blue drivers, but I had another set of C50s with the grey and I couldn't tell any difference.
As far as upgrading to S8R, I think they had the 375 drivers instead of the LE85s that I, and probably you have. I have never heard the 375s compared to the LE85s, but they command a pretty penny, so I suspect it would be a nice upgrade. Do you have a tweeter setup in your c50s?
I installed a set of 77s in mine and it really opened up the top end. I have used 2405s also and they sounded quite good in my C50s. You would need a second crossover to split the high frequency to the tweeters. It is worth the hassle IMHO.
If you have the wood grills, they are very fragile, and can be broken easily. They really make the look to me.
I have my C50s running through an electronic Ashly 88 crossover, so I can dial in the drivers just the way I like them.
Congrats on a great set of JBLs. Not many have the room for them, but if you do, they will bring a smile to your face. Enjoy!

I just came up on some 075's and a N7000. I was thinking of doing like a Angelus on top like the Hartsfields.

I installed a set of 77s in mine and it really opened up the top end. I have used 2405s also and they sounded quite good in my C50s. You would need a second crossover to split the high frequency to the tweeters. It is worth the hassle IMHO.

If I have the N7000 is the Ashley necessary or does it add even more 'dial in'.

No, the 7000 would give you the upper frequencies to the tweeters that would normally just go to the horns.
I wouldn't recommend using an active crossover with the built in crossovers.

Prolly because they are older sets, less available. I don't think resulted audio has anything to do with Blue.

Those are the 77s. The blue reflection in the crystal is from the original diaphragms not from the blue paint on the outside of the driver. You want to see the blue reflection as that indicates original diaphragms assuming they are in good condition and sound good.
