About 10 years ago I walked out of a thrift store with a JBL d208 driver I paidc$15 for. I was coming out as the local jbl hoarder dude was going in, and I assured him I got all of the "good stuff" showing him my prize. He said yeah I've got one of those...
My response: So am I buying yours or are you buying mine.
He doesn't answer questions.
Doesn't sell things.
A mystery wrapped in an enigma.
We went our separate ways.
Last weekend I vended at a swap meet, and I finally broke him of the "no deals" curse.
I was selling the 208, and s bunch of other stuff. He ended up with some jensens I had, and i made him a cash on the spot offer to come buy his 208.
Finally a breakthrough.
We are now making deals, building trust, and making future plans to work together on things. Good.
It took long enough...
So now I've got a mint JBL d208 in a Karlson enclosure and another in a cheap. Corner box. Has anyone had great success with a cabinet design for these?
I mated them up thinking JBL, couldn't possibly sound bad. Hooked to my 299d, the Karlson seems to be less than an ideal match.
What is the ideal match for this driver?
Selling them is also an option as I've got a lot of project speakers, some with far more potential than these. At least that's what my gut tells me. Am I crazy to think I could build a pair of boxes and have some decent speakers?
Other drivers I have would require more plywood, and the wood for the cabinets is financially out of the question at the present moment.
What would you do?
Theres no wrong answers.
