Dennis and Josh. Dennis and Josh. Who are Dennis and Josh that @biscuithead and @Galaxie65 speaks of? Are these guys someone I as a potential buyer in Colorado I should be aware of?

Josh is the old owner of Recycled Audio. He’s cool.

Dennis is the guy in Denver who always has some piece of McIntosh for sale. I’ve been burnt by him, and I know one other person who has been burnt by him.
“The Music Room” is another in CO that you should watch out for. Their pieces that have been repaired, are questionable. Always bare minimum fixes.

Recycled Audio is now located up in Silverthorn CO. That is now an hours drive up the hill. May be worth a trip up there.

Any dealings with Gold Sound in Denver? They have a ton of new and used equipment but reviews are mixed. I think the offer 90 day exchange warranty on used equipment.

I know Ron from Gold Sound. We have very similar backgrounds in photovoltaics... I’ve sold him a few pieces, but never bought anything there... It’s a Retail shop.
His stuff is primo, but priced as though it’s made out of Gold.

No, the Silverthorne recycled audio has no affiliation with Josh.
I have also had lots of interest from a guy in Silverthorne... he always requires lots of effort, without a reward. I can’t remember his name...

It may or may not have been recycled audio.It actually sounded like a young kid in the initial call.

My experience with Gold Sound was, how should I put this, creepy. I went in once to ask about a cartridge for an SME II improved arm on a Thorens 160 BC I was building up. I felt as if I was getting the third degree. Why do I want a cartridge? Why do I want to work on this table and arm? Why have I wasted my money on this project? Why would I waste their time with such inane questions on a cartridge when I could buy a new, better turntable from them? I felt as if I was unworthy to even be in the store. When I tried to just check out the used stuff (all very nice and quit pricey) the man asking me all of the questions hovered around me as if I was going to steal something. I have never been back.

If I'm getting the third degree I always rib with them about having some insane gear left to me by a relative. I just can't help it, because then the tone changes to "OMG, what can I do to win your business and maybe that gear you have!?"

But all that aside we have some pretty regular local flippers that are always fighting back and forth for gear and wanting everything like it was made of gold. I enjoy the hobby and have fun with my finds, but I don't do it for a business or for a profit making venture. Otherwise I think the fun of the hobby would be just another job..

Yah it's crazy, It seems like every area has a couple of these sketchy, pushy types that will step on your face to get something. On the other hand I have met some really nice, honest guys that make money on this stuff as well.

It's as if the aggressive flippers think that no one else could ever know as much about audio equipment as they do...

I have had very positive experiences with Electric City Repair. They worked on a Dual TT and a Pioneer 880 for me. Very reasonable, very honest, acceptable turnover time. They also have a nice array of vintage equipment to peruse and absolutely no pressure. Just good people all around.

In Colorado, you can get some incredible deals if you patient. The flip side is it can be hard to move gear you no longer want. Sadly, I will probably sell a large amount of my speaker hoard on ebay because the only people interested in buying it end up parting them out on there anyway. I am really happy when I can pass on a pair of speakers to someone who appreciates them (and will usually cut them a deal) but I get sick of restoring speakers only to have them parted out. End of rant!

I too, hate to see a working set of speakers parted out.You would think that someone always wants a set of good speakers but they there appear to be more speaker survivors than people that want these days.

Both hobbies have a lot of cash floating around. I think it is naive to not expect some people to be more interested in the money than in the stuff.

I agree, kinda... I often tightrope that line of collector/appreciator/flipper. I will buy something that I am not interested in, just to double my money and reinvest into something I am more passionate about.

I think the folks who strictly do it for a return, without any interest, do leave a bad lingering taste though.
I don’t think it is naive to be adverse to the “just make a buck” folks.

I find that those who have that flipper only stink about them, also make my “dishonest alarm” go off...
There seems to be a common pervasive deceit that hangs on their words when they talk to you.

This is a reaccuring subject, that creates divisions.
The spirit and attitude of the individual flipper is the key. Capitalizing on an opportunity can be seen as hawkish, or respected as shrewd.

Even when I buy something to flip it, I do play with it for a while. First just for the experience and second so that I feel good about everything working once it leaves my possession. I just try to not let the cash is king guys bother me. Noting I say or do will change the situation anyway.
