JBL info wanted on C38's

So I recently picked up a pair of JBL C38's they have D130 woofers and 075 tweeters.

Doing some research I see these could have D130 woofers or D131's, also with or without 075 tweeters.

Another is mine are mirror imaged with round ports on the top, some have rectangular ports and some with round ports on the bottom.

What was the best combo for these speakers?...

Thanks for any input.

Both are similar, Very Efficient, get them up at ear level, turn down the tweeters and team them with a Sub. as Low Bass is nonexistent.

The C38 was designed to be the smallest available cabinet for the speakers it fits—mostly 2-ways. But it's really too small to allow the 15s to perform at optimum level. The C37 and C35 do a better job but look nearly twice as big. I have two pairs of C35 and C37s. Generally the D130 worked okay with the 075, and the 130A was paired with the LE175 mid horn. The 130A has a copper voice coil and is designed to go lower than the D130. Your D131 has always been an interesting 12-inch with the motor of the D130, but there's really no way you should expect the bass to be better and I don't really understand why JBL went to the trouble of creating adapters to put them in the C38/36 when at that time the price difference was so small—six-dollars!

The best sounding system in that 2.5 cubic foot cabinet was the S1 combo with the LE14A with the A33 adapter, the LE175DLH, and the LX10 crossover. Still not a lot of bass. As previously stated, the 001 system was available in this cabinet, but was better suited to the larger volume boxes in the lineup.

it's just a piece of 1/2" thick particle board with a hole in it for the woofer. The C38 enclosure had a hole in the baffle for a 15" driver (D130, 130A) and the adapter allowed for a smaller woofer to be mounted in that cabinet
