JBL Karma!

Swimming in Sound
This is a story about how "paying it forward" works out sometimes.

At a local music store I saw a pair of JBL 4412 monitors that needed foam. I have been trying to get my boss into audio gear for a while. (he is a musician :D) I finally got him to pick them up (at $100 ) by saying "IF YOU DON'T, I WILL!!!!

The glue is dry on the back side of the cones and they will be singing again tomorrow!

At a yard sale 2 weeks ago I came across a pair of JBL L80t. I knew they were heavy and had what looked like decent drivers but I want unfamiliar with them. The foam was bad and for $75 I didnt bite. Looking at the 4412s and lusting after their build quality I put the two speakers together.... after a quick google search I was able to find out that L80t = 4410.... sorta.

I went by the guys house with the L80t and left him a note. I am picking up MY JBLs for $40 tonight!!

And I got a JBL foam kit for free a few months ago, so the wait will be short!!

Sorry for the braggy post,

Super nice pick ups! Congrats! And BTW you should really like the 4412s.

i bet i will! :thmbsp: but sadly, they are not mine, and will be gone after a day of listening after the refoam is complete....

the L80t might have a permanent spot in my collection (replacing CV D-3)

Nice, two sets of JBL's found for less than $150. Be sure the free surrounds fit properly for the L80T's, otherwise, just order the correct ones. No sense in putting anything in but the right stuff.

Now, how about the fact that:

The original $75 already put them very much into score territory.

I have two pair of L80Ts and enjoy them very much. Good for you! Paid $50 for one of my pairs needing re-surround and $100 for the other with (drum roll) NOS replacement woofers in them. Later added T3 crossovers ($16-shipped) to tame the tweeters, and now they really perform.

Check out Gordon W's suggestions for extending the port tube and packing additional insulation in the top of the cabinet. :thmbsp:

Nice pickup! I have 2 pairs of L100T's (I guess you could say) One pair are actual L100T's with real wood veneer and the other pair are the L100S's which are the military version of the L100T3's. Already refoamed the L100T's and am now waiting on the surrounds for the L100S's to get here so those 2214H's can be done. Hopefully by this weekend...

Enjoy!

Man! Nice score. Too bad I can't find some 4412 around here at all, much less for $100...

Do let me know if you happen across some more. NC isn't that far away.

What twenty years will do to speaker pricing? That certainly is a 'score' on both sets. I am the original owner of a set of L80Ts bought in 1990, reburbed by JBL with their full five year warranty for.....wait for it....wait...$399 for the pair and I thought I was getting a deal! Well, they were pretty much new after all.

You'll enjoy those, they're really very nice. And the metal domes are fairly smooth...a lot less fatiguing than others I've heard, although (there are some here do not agree...maybe my ears are too old? lol).

Have fun...and maybe you should consider upgrading the crossovers to the T3 class that followed. I haven't heard the T3s but a lot of members here consider that an important improvement of the mid/high performance.
