jbl l-100s vs. sansui sp-2500x

I have a sansui g-7700 and a 9090, thinking about buying some new speakers, in my local area there is a pair of sansui sp-2500x and a pair of jbl l-100s....now I know...it's all about personal preferences...but what do any of you guys think? the jbls are a bit more money....whats the better match?

I'd take the JBL's all day long over the Sansui speakers or anything else like them. I've only heard, not owned, the JBL's but they are a speaker manufacturer first and were used in recording studios the world over. Sansui was a great electronics manufacturer.....just not speakers. In my opinion, anyway. You might pay more for the JBL's but they are by far more worth it.
 
i'm no expert on speakers but i notice Sansui speakers always get thrown under the bus on this site. i love those grills they use to put on them.

The first question is actually, which L100 model? There were L100, L100A, L100 Century, L100S (I think), L100T, L100T3, and maybe more I'm forgetting.

IMO, it doesn't matter. Any of them will sound much better than Sansui SP 2500s.
 
i currently own jbl 4311l's which sound similar to the 100's. I recently sold two pair of sansui SP-X9900's which are very high in the line of the SP series. The sansui's sound like toys next to the jbl's. I love those sansui grills though.
 
I have L100As and 2500Xs. Soundwise, it isn't very close. The JBLs have a more cohesive sound with it's three drivers compared to Sansui's five drivers. The JBLs also have much more robust bass.

The JBLs have nice wood veneer, sturdy box construction, crappy connectors and a nonrotting accordion pleated woofer surround.

The 2500X has sturdy box construction, crappy connectors and woofers surrounds that haven't rotted or shown any signs of rotting yet. I don't know what material they are. The boxes are veneered with a light brownish solid colored (probably vinyl) stuff. That is covered with a fairly transparent plasticky film printed with a wood grain pattern. In my opinion, this stuff looks more like real wood than the vinyl veneer on most speakers. The same crap is used on my Sansui 8080DB receiver. On both the speakers and the receiver the film has partially peeled off. Very unattractive result.

The grill on 2500Xs is ok, but in my opinion, less attractive than the grill on 2500s.
 
JBL L-100s for certain. I haven't been impressed with any Sansui speakers. Sansui must have really had their focus on their electronics because they got that right.
 
Thanks, guys. l-100 centurys. guess it's a consensus. jbl....'nuff said! Haven't seen them yet...not sure what kinda shape they are in...the pic looks ok. Now just what to do about a front cover....have to make something I guess.
 
Sad fact that it is, if the Sansui Speakers sounded as good as they look, they would be people fighting over them!
 
I have a pair of Sansui SP-2500 that I am about to sell to a friend of mine. I assume they are close to the 2500x. They were my first decent pair of speakers and I have always thought that they are better than people give them credit for. In my opinion, a great loud rock n roll speaker.
That said, the JBL L100 is a far superior speaker in every way. If you can spend the extra cash buy them, you wont be sorry.
 
I have a variety of speakers, including the L100. It is hard to beat the performance of the JBL divers, but it is easy to beat their cabinets. If you plan to put the new speakers in a living space - normally controlled by the significant other - expect a fight. If you are king of your domain, JBL all the way.
 
Hold out for the JBL L112s, L96s, L100ts, or 4313bs, or 4408s or 4410s. The later JBL speakers have a *much* more even sound to them and aren't any more expensive as the L100 is the known speaker. I had 4311bs which is similar to L100 and they didn't hold a candle to my 4313bs.

Now don't get me wrong the L100 is better than the Sansui speaker but you can do better yet IMO.
 
No brainer - JBL.

as mentioned, Sansui is worthy of note on the other end of the speaker wire.

In fact I have a GREAT Sansui / JBL combo in the bedroom system - Sansui AU-20000 amp powering a pair of JBL 4425's.
 
I'll add this to my comments of over eleven years ago. If both sets were cosmetically nice, and the op had bought both sets, he could easily sell the JBLs for pretty big bucks today compared to maybe one quarter of that amount for the Sansuis.

JBLs with a big silver faced Sansui or Kenwood seems to be a classic combination.
