Not sure of the specific years however I own 2 pairs of JBL L212s and that are vertically inline. I have them in a stacked orientation and has improved on image focus and everything else sonically in my room.
I wonder if any one has tried stacking the inline L100s here?

The in-line version is the oldest, original and less common L100. It is the home version of the JBL 4310. It has different crossover and an alnico tweeter. It sounds different than the later L100A's. I prefer it as it and so did Bruce Swedien.

Although everyone calls the later versions with staggered drivers L100's they are actually L100A's. Home versions of the 4311A & 4311B.

The L100A's with the black JBL logo came first and the last version of the L100A's are the ones with the orange JBL logo. I believe the black label still had alnico woofers and the orange label went to ferrite.

I bought a pair new in 1973, and still have them. They have the Black JBL logo, but the speakers are not in line.

Looking on the bay at JBL L100 Century speakers and noticed that some have the drivers inline vertically and some have an offset mid.

Whats the difference? Production years? sonic refinement? For some reason I favor the inline model :scratch2:

Cheers!

Here is a good reference place to start. You can choose between professional and non commercial lines

Those were manufactured after the original in-line L100's and would be considered the early L100A's. They will still say L100 (as they all do) but you will see an A in the serial number. Black logo early model, orange logo late model.
