JBL L100 & L100 Century differences ?

krowmagnum

Compulsive speaker freak
I recently picked up a nice pair of L100's to add to my JBL collection and noticed the label on them has "L100" where my other pair has the "L100 Century" label. They both have the same identical driver layout so I'm guessing one is just a later model but which one ? Can't find anything online.

And has anyone purchased the repro foam grill inserts for the L100's ? And are they happy with the quality and fit ?

I'll WAGer the "Century" says Los Angeles on the foil decal.
How 'bout the other--does it say LA or Northridge?
Northridge would be later.

Binding posts might offer a clue too. Twist-lock style would be later than spring-loaded.

Hi. My first post here... Anyone out there have any recent experience with replacing the JBL L100 (Los Angeles) cross-overs? Any do's or dont's? Bad experiences? I 've got the same set I've been listening to since they were made new (I still have one of the original shipping boxes in fact). Along the way, I had the midrange replaced (non-stock) as well as the tweeters. same XO's. The 123A-1's are both rebuilt with JBL OEM kits (perfect). I've often read that the original XO's were not as efficient as some more modern set-ups, but I don't have the ability to "build" my own XO's, I'd have to buy a kit of pre-chosen components. Anyone actually tried this before?

Correct. The speakers marked "Century" have Los Angeles and the speakers with just L100 are Northridge which dates them after late '78 I guess.

BTW: both speakers have the spring loaded binding posts. Were the twist-locks used on the later L100's ?

Any idea when they changed to the twist-locks ? I have those on both my L26's and L36's.
