JBL L100 vs 4312 vs 4312A

Chicago HiFi
So I got these 3 pairs and I did a sound challenge. I used Sansui 9090DB for the test.

I will rate them like that. First is the 4312A, second is the 4312 and third is the L100.

The tweeters on the 4312A beat both the 4312 and L100.

The fight was between the 4312 and the L100 and I find the 4312 to have a little bit better mids and high than the L100 even thou they use the same drivers. The L100 had a little better bass response.

So the 4312A are the winners in my ears.

Any comments and opinions are welcome. I would love to hear what the others have to say.

Makes perfect sense. I've always felt that the paper-cone tweeters are the weak-spot of the L100 and similar speakers. You are lucky to have a pair of 4312A, having the option of being able to experience what many enjoy about the classic L100 sound when it comes to the bass, without being limited by the paper-cone tweeters at the same time.

Are you sure that your L100 and 4312 use the same drivers? It's common for the 4312 to come with ferrite magnet woofers such as the 2213H, etc, while many L100 versions came with alnico magnet woofers such as the 123A.

From outside they look the same but inside they may be different.
If i have time i will check

I've done the same, and found that the next evolution to the 4412A has much improved crossovers with less phase distortion at the crossover point, better imaging. Then we got the LSR series that replaced the 4412A, again better.

Cabinet quality however, I felt went downhill after the 4312A, the 4412A just isn't put together as well, screw anchors went to T-nuts, and try to find a set without broken grille frames or pegs!

JBL Pro seems to have a pretty good grip on sonic improvement from generation to generation, and the current LSR6332 doesn't have grilles, but the cabinets will support a small truck.

The 4313B is supposed to be the best of that series ...
They have the 066 tweeters on top.
