JBL L100T Score!!!

Must have been a JBL L100T weekend here at AK.

Along with tyler477, I scored a pair of the aforementioned JBL's.

This is my first pair of JBL's:scratch2:

The woofers obviously need refoamed. After they are fixed, my son will audition them in his hi-fi rig (he is currently running Infinity Qa's). I really don't need them...I am quite content with my BA A400's.

The best part is I found them on CL and the guy was giving them away for free.
Can't beat that.

My son and I will probably get these fixed up over Christmas break.

welscome to the L100t club! they were bigger than i expected! Thats funny they look almost identical! messed up cabinet, same bad woofers... you even put them in the same spot in the garage i did!

AND with all the free stuff i got with mine, they were basically free!

No kidding about the size of these things. :tears: They were alot bigger than what I expected them to be.

I will let you know as soon as I get my surrounds which one I went with, gimme a week or two.

Aren't those HUGE? The very size of them kept me from scoring a pair for $50 at a Salvation Army around here. I had already loaded up the car throughout the day with various other estate sale/garage sale finds and didn't find the L100ts until there was no room left. I was absolutely shocked by how big they were, having seen pictures but not ever having seen them in person.

So true.

For some dumb reason, I thought they were the size of NLA's after looking at the pics he used for the CL ad. I was a bit suprised when I showed up with my little Chevy Prizm to haul them away. It was hard but we got 'em in the back seat. :tears:

Ordered.

I noticed you are using yours on the ground.... any reasone to put them on stands? if so, how high up?

That, my friend, would be a matter of personal preference. I've never messed around with getting them up off the floor. JBL engineers put bases under them and I figure that they're on there for a reason. I have them on throw rugs to keep from scratching the wood floor in my LR is all.

Now that I look at your pics again, maybe yours are missing the plastic bases? If so, it would be simple to make new ones out of wood. Some day I might remove the cheesy plastic ones off my pair and make wood ones.

If you do the surrounds yourself, be sure to put them on the back of the cone like oem, they'll work their best that way. Same woofer is used in the 4425 Studio Monitor where they work damn well!

Nice scores you two, very Karma building. My brother has a pair of them also from a garage sale and rebuilt them with my guidance. Works great in his home setup.

Looking forward to your progress updates. There are also some recommendations at Lansing Heritage regarding crossover modifications including cap upgrades, bypassing, and charge coupling if you're really into it.

Regards,

Bart

BTW, if you need new JBL Pro Blue grille fabric, AK and LH member Zilch is your source!

Mine have the bases, just not in the pic.... what kind of amp are you using with these monsters?

Roger that.

The L100t3's like to have some power behind them. I think they are rated at 300 watts. The t3's are basically the same as yours except for the crossover's have some differences. I switch around between a Kenwood Supreme 700M(175wpc), Phase Linear 400/2(205wpc), and an Onkyo Integra M504(165wpc) running out of a Kenwood Basic C2 preamplifier. The 700M sounds the best to me with these speakers, but the other two are no slouches either. They sounded decent running straight out of my 9090db (125 wpc) also.

I got my t3's off ebay a couple years ago. They needed surrounds and new grill cloth but the cabs were perfect. I got the blue cloth from Zilch and GordonW did my surrounds because I never did it before and was afraid that I might screw it up. I've since learned that it's not as hard as it looks like it might be.
I love these speakers. Let us know what you think once you get yours up and running. Good luck.:thmbsp:

I'm sure Zilch will chime in, but I believe he commonly says, "4412's" in a different cabinet.

Nice score. Free?!! And people call me a thief! :D

Can't go wrong with looneytune2001. AKA Rick Cobb. We all use him. You'll frequently get an e-mail asking you to MEASURE the cone diameter due to JBL design, age, and possible recone changes, depending on the driver model.

Hey everyone...thanks for all the great info! Being new to JBL's, all the comments are very helpful.

I second the issue of those dinky plastic bases on these quality speakers, what gives? I made custom bases for my A400's with spikes, these might get the same treatment some day. :scratch2:

I will definitely post pics when me and the boy get some work done on these. It will be real interesting, as we will have a speaker shoutout on our hands.

I have a set of Genesis III's that I am working on as well as these JBL's. They are similar in size and are both 3-way. Can't wait to get them both going.

I told myself I'd replace them once they break.

[They don't seem to want me to do that.... ;) ]
