JBL L110 upgrades..

Well...about five years or so ago I picked up a pair of rough JBL L110's in a package deal. They needed the standard refoam and dust caps for the mids and woofers. The 033 tweeters are pushed in and not in good shape.

I started researching replacements for the 033 and quickly found there are none. Having just had the mids and woofers done this kinda bummed me out but along came GordonW with an excellent suggestion of running the 035Ti in the L110's with their crossover modified to a JBL 4313B crossover (3113B).

I've finally gotten all the parts together that I need and hope to get the crossovers done today, everything mounted and have these up and singing. I'll post up pics as I get things done.

From what I've been told these should be a very nice set of book shelf speakers. Getting excited to finally hear these.

I just found a pair as well. 1 of my 033's were in great shape and the other has been pulled out but they work. I have a pair of 035's so I would like you opinion when you have had time with them.

Will let you know once they are done. Taking me a while to get these done as I'm not the best schematic kinda guy. Usually like working off pictures but this has forced me to brush up on my schematic skills.

Gordon has posted up the schematics and the upgrades to them. Just make sure which version you have before you order or it will set ya back another week or two....ask me how I know ;)

My problem may be I need to come up with a LE111a as they were played without surrounds. :sigh:

I have one with an LE111A and one with the LE111H. I've been told they will be fine as they have the same cones and the t/s parameters or good to go.

If you have a nice, refoamed LE111H I'd consider a swap for the LE111A that way mine would be matched and you'd have an LE111A for yours.....

Mine are both a's, so I will try to keep them the same but, if I run across an H I will let you know.

BTW I do think the H's are better and if there are a winfall of them...........

There have been aftermarket 033 diaphragms available for a few years now. I haven't had occasion to use any, so I can't tell ya' how they sound. Other than probably better than a dead original.

L-110 + 035Ti

The 4313B crossover was designed for the 066 tweeter. It will probably work just fine with an 035Ti. A lot of people are running 044's on it, so it must be within the range of the L-Pads...

I could not go back to the 033's after getting a pair of L-100T's, but I went a different route as I found a pair of 4410A crossovers locally.
I changed out the mid to match the 4410A as well. (Just a little bit smoother than the LE-5-XX.) Had to block off the L-Pad holes (with a pair of bolts). About the only thing I'd like to change is finding the 4410 XO so I'd have the L-Pads back. (Have not missed them sound wise, but I'd just like to have 'em.)

The 035Ti is just a tad thicker than the 033, so it protrudes from the baffle unless you leave the gasket out (not recommending doing that). Might be better to remove a little wood till it's flush, mine are still sticking out a bit. I decided to ignore any diffraction issues rather than chancing an air leak... The original 3 bolts won't line up with the 035Ti's four holes, I used the black wood screws that came with my 035Ti's.
