JBL L112 anyone heard ? vs klipsch RF3 ?

I'm the original owner of an L112 pair so I can appreciate it, but a more valid comparison might be a 4333 or L300 and I don't think many would have a problem picking a winner there! :scratch2:

The question was asked and I stated that I didn't think these comparisons were valid. so, what's so humorous about that?

I have the L112 and one Cornwall.I know that if I had another Cornwall those would be the main speakers.It is just that I always prefered the 15 inch woofers.
 
Sorry to bring back an old thread, but I feel like adding a little more to this...

For one thing, the OP asked for overall performance, not just bass performance.

To my ears and preferences, the L112's were much better than the Cornwall's. Slightly deeper, better quality, tighter bass, just not a lump of bass like the Cornwall's. Midrange was natural and airy without being nasally and honky like the Klipsch. Treble was crisp and clear, not soft and etchy. Imaging was also much wider and precise.

And as for woofer and cabinet size vs bass performance means nothing.

Klipsch Cornwall - 15" woofer - Huge enclosure - In room response of around 32Hz

JBL L112 - 12" woofer - Medium enclosure - In room response of around 30Hz

NHT 2.9 - 10" woofer - Small enclosure - In room response of around 20Hz

Genesis Physics II - 8" woofer - Medium enclosure - In room response around 20Hz


Go figure...

I recall the 112's quite fondly. A hell of a speaker capable of reproducing sound beyond its size. This is due to the quality of the drivers. The RF3's are a different speaker. I'm gonna say the 112's have a lot more money driver wise in them than the Klipsch's. The 112's will need more power to sing than what you have, but boy can they sing.
 
As far as a compare, sound-wise, I can't say. Having just done a quick look on Ebay, the RF3's you can get for $350.00. There's 2 pair for that price. There's a set of the L112's for $1400.00. I don't know if he'll get it, but $800.00 is about average. I own the 112's, and they are stellar. I'd say resale would swing their way. Don't know if that helps, but there it is.
 
Hoping to snag a pair of L112s off a regional Craigslist offering. My biggest fear is that they're already sold and the ad hasn't been taken down, yet.
 
Good luck, I love my 4411, it's a way different monster than my 4312s. I use a bryston 4b. they love power. You would have to spend a bit to find something comparable today.
 
I found a Pair of JBL L112s as my avatar suggests. I worship them as there are no speakers better than these. I have been through some speakers and these are by far the best sounding. Anyone also know how L112s would compare to expensive modern speakers? Like B & W or Polks? Love to hear opinions.

Lucky you! :thmbsp: The pair of L112s I was stalking on my regional CL was already sold (for under $300!!) :dammit: and the seller hadn't taken down :nono: the week-old listing. I have a recently-purchased pair of Polk Audio RTi A9s, and when I finally get my own pair of L112s or 4311s, I'll definitely let you know.
