jbl l112 issues

Ok here's the deal. I have a pioneer 1050 running jbl 112's. I thought they sounded pretty good but i also have a pair of l36 decades and they sound better than the 112's. Then a friend just got a pair of jbl 100's and they sound way better than my 112's. What could be wrong? A couple of people have mentioned crossovers and the l-pads are staticy. I live in Dayton, Oh. Does anyone know of anywhere close by that can check these out and see what the problem could be? Or at least point me in the right direction? thanks!

All I gotta say, is IMHO, if a JBL L36 sounds better than a L112, something must be DRASTICALLY wrong with the L112. I'd start checking for out-of-polarity drivers (reversed leads), bad foam surrounds, improper modifications, and such.

Same, IMHO, for the L100. The L112 is a much better design.

Gordon.

I have seen the woofer terminals marked incorrectly on JBL drivers! Test them with a battery, etc to be totally sure- do not look at them and presume such!! I made that mistake only once and learned my lesson......good call Gordon.

I'd still bet the L112 would sound better than the other two, if both woofers were just connected reversed to absolute polarity because of JBL's odd marking convention.

Now, if one is not in phase with the other, whole different ballgame as Gordon suggested.

Hmmm,I want too check into this also with my JBL's. My 4313's are somewhat similar as I'm thinking they are not sounding their best..Did they use the reverse polarity in them? And if you hook up a 1.5v battery to the corresponding terminals in the back.I know for sure the norm is for the cone too move "outward" + to +, - TO -............. However I believe on my LE10-H this is reversed, it moved inward rather than the norm. Wonder if I should make it too the "outward excursion" no matter what the leads tell me ???

ok, the foam is good. so when you say polarity is wrong does that mean the positive and negative on the binding posts might be flip flopped? and there are no mods on these. thanks for all the help...

Yes correct, somewhere between output & input the signal has been crossed.......................possibly :D

Also, verify that the individual drivers sound the same, one side compared to the other, with a mono signal to the pair of speakers. I wonder if one or more driver is tired or has sustained damage at some time...

Gordon.

cool, thanks for the tips. I'm kinda thinking the wires might be crossed, hopefully this will be an easy fix...
