JBL L26 terminal post

Hello,

I'm wondering if anyone can help me out re: JBL L26s.

They have those spring loaded posts, like these:

One cap + spring is missing from one of the posts, so I can't get a very good connection.

My questions:
1. If I buy a replacement post, can I remove the cap and spring and pop them on the existing post?
2. Is there a way to get a good connection to just existing post without replacing anything?
3. Will the whole post / terminal assembly have to be replaced?

Thanks in advance if anyone can let me know what kind of options I'm looking at here.

5 way binding post.jpg They could be replaced with a 5 way binding posts. I did so on my L-100's long ago. Did not want one to pop off when connected to tube gear.


Very easy fix and will allow greater flexibility when wire is considered.

Thanks for both of these suggestions. I would love to have 5 ways instead of what's currently on there!

Unless I'm missing something, there are no screws anywhere on the back of the speaker, so I'd have to go in through the front. Does that seem right? And is going through the front an involved process?

I have never worked on speakers, so I'd be inclined to just take it to a shop if replacing the posts is the only option and there's no way in through the back. Just wanted to see if there was anything I could do myself that would get a similar result as replacement.
 
Take the driver out and then you will see the head of the screw. The wire is attached to a washer/lug and a lock washer. You may need to open the hole a tiny bit to be able to run the end thru the back board. Then just reassemble and wipe some fingernail polish to hold it snug.

Pretty easy, just be careful with the removal and install of the drivers. Taking care to prevent the screwdriver slipping and punching a hole in the surround. I place on hand over the area as a precaution.

I just did this option on a pair of L-36's ( I don't know if the cutout is same size on the 26's). It was a very nice fit and sits right in the original cutout. Removed the woofer, pushed in the existing terminal board which was a piece of this press board glued in place. Then removed nuts from new terminals and discarded supplied tabs. Connectors on the existing wires slipped right onto new posts (I had to enlarge one tab's hole slightly with drill). Very easy and very pleased with results. I think Parts Exp. sells same size units also but shipping $.
