Super Member
i would appreciate any critiques of this speaker . i can get a pair locally
for $80 , but cannot audition them (need a refoam) . they look ok, but i'm
wary of the cone tweeters(dented) . if i wanted to upgrade the tweeters, is there
a recommended replacement (026ti?) how about e-wave ?

i have lots of tweeters (vifa D20,
philips textile dome, jbl tlx, philips mylar dome , etc.) but don't really have the
extra cash to E-wave them right now.

Original tweeters are the LE-25-2 (L100 type cone on a square metal plate?). 035Ti is the recommended replacement, but wouldn't exactly be a drop-in without mods (it's round). 026ti wouldn't fit either, without modification, it's a big rectangular plastic plate.

Not sure if these tweets have their own doghouse, so they might be dealing with the back-pressure from the woofer, you'd have to seal things really well & possibly have a metal-plate-mounted tweeter.

LE-26 might come close to fitting and be an upgrade, but it's still a cone.

I have a pair of L26's. My advise is refoam them and give them a listen. I was truely impressed with the set I got last month

They are great speakers in stock form. If you want something to mod, leave these for someone who can appreciate them for what they are.

Dented duzt covers on tweeters don't sound bad and refoaming works great.

L26s are excellent speakers as-is. I've had the opportunity to compare my restored L26s against E-waved Advents, and let's just say that I'm not making any plans to modify them. Refoam them and replace the crossover caps with some Jantzen Z-Standard or Crosscaps and prepare to be happy.
