JBL L300 Value

I have been toying with the idea of getting a pair of JBL L300s. I have found a guy with a very nice set in very good condition. I can get them @ $3500 but I didn't really want to go more than $3k. Checked ebay and they seem to go for $2500-$4500. Am I unrealistic to think of getting a set for $3k? Either the L300 or 4333.. Thoughts?

That is what I was thinking/hoping. I guess I just need some patience ... that's what I keep telling myself....
 
Very difficult to ascertain value without knowing condition.

FWIW, a pair of L300 was recently sold here on Bartertown for $4,500 IIRC in excellent condition and it did not take very long for them to sell. L300s are definitely among the most desirable JBL speakers.

I guess it depends upon how motivated the seller is and how badly you want them.

Sellers price really depends on
Location (where in the world are they relative to the buyers);
Functional condition (are they original or have they been refreshed/refurbed?), and
CONDITION (are they clean or have they been abused, chipped up, hammered, repainted, etc) ...
 
Have you heard them? I would think if you go listen to them they will either make you drool as you are reaching for your wallet and begin counting out 35 C notes or you will say, "thanks but no thanks". Or if you are like me you'll hold back the drool and kick the tires, scratch your head, rub your chin, listen to one more song, check out the bottoms, and then negotiate if he will, but all the time knowing that they will be going home with you that day.
 
Altec or other equivalent seem to go at a discount compared to the L300


I would even pit them against something like a Kef 105 -- a less than $1000 speaker

IMO I'd rather have a big pair of vintage infinities -- or at least something that doesn't sit so low to the floor
 
Maybe but if he is asking about L300s, then other brands, Altecs, Infinities, whatevers, probably aren't interesting to him, no matter what the price,
I kinda hacked a pair of similar speakers from JBL L200s that I upgraded, rebuilt, and redesigned - basic 3 way of JBL Woofer, center horn and slot tweeter ...
so I am somewhat knowledgable about the general kind of sound a pair of L300s have ...
had mine over 7 years, and sold them because someone offered me a real fair price and it was time ... both of us were happy with the outcome.

He may find a better pair or a worse pair cheaper -
or may decide later to just spend the extra money ...
 
I've sort of kept an eye on sales of L300's over the last few years, ever since my BIL got a pair.
Prices seems to have crept up from $3k three or so years ago to much closer to the $4000ish range over the recent past. But that's just what I seem to remember seeing.
 
If they were perfect and I liked the sound, I would say they are worth the $3500.00. You could find a pair of L 200's and upgrade them into L 300's....and save a few $$$.
 
If they are nice I'd try a meet in the middle scenario at $3250 which is a respectable price to pay for a great set of speakers
 
If you can buy a nice pair of L300 for $3.5K and it's local. I would take that deal and count yourself lucky. $500 is not enough to quibble over if they are in excellent shape. Which is currently below typical selling prices.

Some folks are too cheap for their own good.
