JBL L7 Vs. JBL L150A. I currently have a pair of L7's I will be picking up a pair of JBL L150A's locally today and cannot wait to A/B them. Winner gets prime position in the living room, the defeated heads to craigslist or ebay. Simply not enough room :( Any words of advice or favorite tracks that will show the qualities of both? Thanks!

Interesting comparison. :thmbsp: I haven't A-B'd mine mostly because the L150As are stored away in their original boxes. I'd be interested in hearing what you think of the comparison. I'd suggest making sure the L7s get enough power to make the comparison valid and that means more power than what the L150As will want or require. JBL states the max power for the L150A is 300wpc and for the L7 that's 450. I'll suggest you need at least 200wpc to get the best out of the L7. Plus you can easily passive-bi-amp the L7 to extract the best performance out of it, which you can't do on the L150A.

If it might affect your decision, the L150A will bring a lot more money, assuming similar condition, than an L7 on the resale market. Both will suffer from being too large to ship economically for a speaker in this price range but that my not be a factor if you're in a large metropolitan area. The L150A's 044 will be a little bit "softer" on poor recordings that may cause the L7's 035TiA to appear harsh. On good, clean source material the L7 should hit clean higher highs, depending on what your ears can hear. The lows of the L7 are as good as any 12" speaker I've ever heard and while the 150A might appear to have stronger bass, many find the augmentation of the 128H with the passive radiator to be less precise.

As I said, I'd be interested in hearing what you think. I've played L112, 4412A, and L96s directly next to the L7 and they don't come close, but I've not listened to the L150As in quite a while. One of my favorite test tracks is Al Di Meola's "Embrace" off of his CD/album Kiss My Axe.
