JBL L80Ts in SW DC - really cheap

The ad is still up, and reads like the guy knows that JBL is good stuff, so maybe he's looking for people to offer up more than the $25 teaser price...

I agree. Who goes to the trouble of saving the boxes for a pair of L80Ts and then sells them for $25? Something doesn't seem right here.

Never know. I got my pair off of CL for free. Original owner said he didn't want to throw them away. They only needed refoaming which I did and am listening to them right now. What do you have to lose :scratch2:

Sorry, they're gone. The boxes are beat up and the woofers need refoaming. Other than that they look okay. Didn't test them, but the guy didn't look shady or anything, and even if they're blown or something, at least I got a pair of grills for $25 for my other pair, and probably other parts.

Some people just don't want to take the time to research things and deal with the tire-kickers you get with a "fair" price.

Well, it's gonna cost $100 to get them refoamed at a factory authorized service center. I want to do it right. I don't want my first amateur refoaming to be on speakers from a company that brags how narrow its voicecoil gaps are.

Another AK'er scores :thmbsp: They are wonderful sounding speakers.

Refoaming isn't that hard. I refoamed mine and I am no expert by any stretch. The kit is only about $25. I didn't think authorized JBL service centers did refoams, they only do recones which is a lot more $$$. Check with Zilch or Gordon in the Speaker forum. I'm pretty sure what I'm telling you is fact

There's no such thing as a "factory" re-surround from JBL. JBL doesn't offer surrounds not attached to cone kits. Those are easy to do yourself with after-market kits. My first re-surround was on an L80T and they're working great. My second pair came with factory re-cone on one and NOS woofer in the other!

I'd suggest using Rick Cobb's kits and just take your time. Plenty of help here if you need it.

Here is my first pair before/after:

JBL doesn't sell foam surrounds - they sell full recones kits, and that costs more than those speakers are worth.

That said, I've done a dozen or so resurround jobs in the last couple years ...
L20T, L60T, L100T, and a pair of 4412s in the last month - its not hard - just a bit messy and tedious to do it right.

Congrats on the great deal!

A correct way to say it is that JBL doesn't sell re-foam kits, and doesn't "authorize" re-foaming as a repair, they recommend re-coning. That said, most JBL Authorized Warranty Centers will re-foam your woofers with aftermarket parts if you request it (every one that I've dealt with does).

How did you snag those so quick? I responded about 30 minutes after it being posted. Just curious.

You can surely refoam them yourself, easy. They look like generic 10" would do, but I would go the looneytune2001 route unless you have some spare foams laying around you can fit check.
