JBL L880 opinions?

This is a newer JBL speaker, any thoughts? Compare to Boston Acoustics VR-950? they listed for the same price. I'm beginning to think I need to get something a bit newer to beat out my Bostons. Both the JBL L100's and l166's have been most unimpressive. Still considering L112's or L100t3. Also Infinity. This isn't easy is it??

I have not heard them but have read a number of good reviews about them. I don't know if I would roll the dice and buy a pair. Especially when I can get a pair of L5s/L7s/L100t3s/L80t3s etc. for far less coin. I am not even mentioning the multitudes of other brands/models that meet the same criteria. I know the older JBL speakers can deliver the goods. I think the newer L8XX aren't slouches but I am not convinced they are worth the price of admission. In a few years I wouldn't mind picking up a pair of L890s just to try them out but the price would have to be in the $300-$400 range for a pair.

A pair of L880 for $600 is a good price. I lucked out, and bought a new pair of L890 for $550. I love them. Great sound, solid build quality, good looks. The Studio L Series is a terrific value. And for that price, you should have no trouble recouping your money if you decide they are not to your taste.

I am curious where one can get a pair of L890s for $550. Were they new or used and was it a retail site/store or a private seller?

They were brand new, and I found them on eBay over a year ago. I bought the entire Studio L-series from them, at VERY good prices. The L890s were, as stated, about $550. The L8400P was about $400, the L830s were about $370, and the L820s were about $400. All were in sealed JBL boxes, and were shipped Fed Ex. I don't recall the name of the firm, but they were located in New York. I've never seen L890s sell for anywhere near that price; the retail on them, I believe, is $799 U.S. EACH.
