I'm working on having my long-deceased grandfather-in-law's Lancer 66s restored for active duty, and I hit a wrinkle with the crossovers, which were buried in wax.
The tech I'm working with chipped the wax away from one crossover and found it did not match the online L66 schematic. Some of the components' values had worn off, so he measured and averaged the values to reverse-design a schematic of these waxy crossovers.
The drivers are all original. My question is, would it be advisable to try reverse-engineering these crossovers as they are, or is it better to simply rebuild them according to the online L66 schematic? https://servlib.com/jbl/audio/l-66-lancer.html#
I'm inclined to go with the latter; the tech suggested that the online schematic appears to be configured to allow for higher frequencies vs his reverse-designed schematic, which sounds optimal.
