hello. I have a pair of JBL Lancer 77 with original lans surrounds. they are not cracked and somewhat felx. My question is are these woofers better with the original surrounds possibly treated with brake fluid or are they better with new foam surrounds.

also, for resale value in the future, is it better to keep the surrounds original or refoam them?

Brake fluid is just a band aid. They will need to be replaced and should only be replaced with the correct material. I don't have any clue where to get them anymore. I am sure someone here can help.

If you want to look at them (i.e. a collector) leave them, if you want to listen to them refoam them. To maintain maximum value as a refoam, see if JBL will still service the drivers. Otherwise use a respected surround vendor (not generic e-bay junk).

That would be nice if JBL serviced the drivers, but last time i called jbl i could not even understand the service rep. i believe he was overseas. is there a different number than the one on JBL (harman) website to contact about vintage equipment?
