JBL Refoam Recommendation

I have some JBL L100t3 speakers that need a refoam. I have done refoam jobs on other speakers, (Bose, Dahlquist) but I have been told that the JBLs are more demanding of a precision job. Can anyone recommend someone for this job? There is no JBL authorized shop local to me. Thanks!:thmbsp:

I went through the same thing. When I got my L150's I was told how the JBL gap was so thin, etc... paid I think ~$130 to have them done, that was ~11 years ago.

Then I did some Cerwin-Vega D-9's and even went the conservative route of replacing the dust caps so I could use shims on the voice coil. It was super easy, but then again everyone said they had a wide VC gap...

Then I recently got a pair of 4412 Studio Monitors, using 128H woofers just like my L150's, but I decided to do them myself. I got a kit and was able to do it surprisingly easily. I didn't even have to cut the dust cap to shim the voice coil. It was definitely a different experience using test tones to center the voice coil instead of shims but it worked.

It is tempting to do it myself but they are not my woofers. Since I posted this, Gordon W has agreed to repair them for me. He has done work for me before and it is absolutely top notch! I highly recommend his work.

If you have done refoam before, you can do it.
Few of my first refoam jobs involved JBL LX500, L100 and L26.

If you choose not to DIY you can't go wrong with Gordon. He did a great job my on 2214's oh I'd say it's been 6 years ago.

I'm redoing the surrounds on a pair of those same woofers myself & I get my surrounds from Rick Cobb, but if I didn't, I'd certainly consider Gordon.
He's a standup guy and well respected in this community.

I've probably done 4 pairs of that model over the years. Its not a hard job, just a bit grubby and fussy.

Just got my AR90 lower mids back from refoaming by Simply Speakers in Florida.

Heather, your "work" area looks a lot like my workbench! No wonder the job is grubby and fussy!

No No - I did all the grubby work on the back porch outside a few weeks back (MEK, ya know?) ...
I just had it set up on the coffeetable yesterday so I could play the 30Hz tone
when doing the final glue of the surround to the speaker frame.

But yes, my regular workbench is buried right now ...
