JBL Studio 530

jazzmans

Super Member
So who's heard these, and what's your opinion? I'm a big fan of JBL horns, a cheap pair of bookshelf JBLs with tractrix horns back in the eighties were one of my A-Ha! moments in learning about audio.

Anyone heard these that have also heard the KEF LS-50?

I own the Studio 530's but have not heard the LS-50's. It has been years since I have heard a KEF UniQ driver. The 530's have very stable imaging much like a time aligned speaker. The woofer is recessed and the compression driver seems to be in the same plane.

The 5.25 inch woofer with the 1.5 inch voice coil in a large enclosure produces some good bass. Efficiency of course is a trade off for the bass extension. The speakers are well balanced in my 12x15 room. Living in a second floor apartment more bass might be too much.

They are very good speakers and better than their price would indicate. On another site one member did not feel like I should enjoy them since they were 1/5 the price of my int. amp. One day I realized the music moved me more with these speakers than all my others. I think you will be impressed.

I love my 530's! I have heard another review love the JBL Studio 230 and thinks they are better than the 530's. I also heard they are gonna stop making the 530 so you might want to jump on them and get them. I am planing on getting the jbl 520's center channel speaker in a few days. :music:

They reminded me something from Star Wars. Also keep an eye on there prices they been getting pretty low lately.

I'm just not a fan of the black ash speakers -
but the 530s look really nice in "Cherry wood"

I had the LC2CH center, and a pair of 820CH for surrounds(didn't like the surrounds and sold them immediately)
and even tho it was a fake wood, it was very nice looking...

I have the 530s, 580s and 230s. The 230s do not equal the 530s, tho they are a nice speaker.

The 530s are my primary main speakers in my vinyl room, paired with a set of JBL S109 Aquarius IV side speakers and a REL T-5 sub. 5 speaker systems in a 2 channel system in a 11 x 14 room. The 530s bass is impressive, as is the ability to pin-point images within the soundstage. The S109s are used as a fill-in powered by their own power amp (AVA 170).
