Does not look like the original drivers to me anyways, the originals would have foam surronds and the dust caps would be smaller, that could greatly affect the quality of sound, if the drivers are not JBL original, for what it has been designed for.
Anyone can correct me, if I am wrong.
Can't go wrong with the price.
 
yeah the drivers look original to me , and yes they have been refoamed, $175 seemed like a good price to me , however the good stuff gets scooped up pretty quick up in seattle and these have been up for a week or so plus up on the bay so it was making me question the price. the seller is out of town till the 29th and so am I , so he said we can get together then and I can check them out. the only real problem is I just picked up a pair of ads L780/2's the same day this ad was posted, love the ads speakers but have been looking for some jbl's. has anyone actually heard these? how do they sound?

They are up there for fair market value, not a steal. I paid $30 for my L19s (consumer version of these) and they were fantastic. I had to totally restore them, but these look really nice, if I had the money and was in the market I would be very interested.

I'd think the home version was a veneered cab and the studio version is what you see. Those look like original woofers to me.:yes:
 
Both versions are veneered, the seller says they've been lightly sanded and refinished.

The 4310B has a blue face and the L-pad on the front for easier adjustments in the studio. The L19 has a brown or black face and no L-pad on the front, the L-pad is on the back next to the input terminals. I don't know if the crossover is different or not.

I think they were slightly bass shy, but that was probably because I am used to BIG speakers. But they seemed to be well constructed, with very, very good midrange. They lack audiophile "air," whatever that really means. I only sold mine because I had one system, but multiple pairs of speakers.
Overall a solidly scaled down JBL, IMO.

I'm sure you'll enjoy the 4301b's. Very nice speakers, and handsome in their own right. I certainly enjoy mine. And yes, those look quite original.

One thing.... to say they're uncolored is getting a little carried away. They are certainly not uncolored, though perhaps less colored than some. I've been told they're "west coast sound"..... and I believe it.... they sound far different than my British speakers.

Whatever the case, I'll not give mine up anytime soon.

The price seems perfectly reasonable, especially assuming local pickup. I've watched them a bit (horse in the race, yadda yadda,) and have seen them go as high as $450. That price seems at the lower end of going rate for a decent pair. In other words, a decent enough deal.

BTW, when I refinished mine (they started life with me in pretty rough shape) Sir Byrd certainly was good authority for me. Good people that, and knowledgeable.
 
Between my second system pair of 4301B that have rebuilt crossovers by Zilch and seven (7) 4301b in my 7.1 AV surround system I am sold on them. These were some of the smallest of JBLs pro line but nothing about the sound is small either performance or volume wise. I'd say $175 is a very fair price for the 4301B.
