JBL Woofer Summary

Is there any sort of summary of the various JBL woofers. Maybe something noting what model numbers are found in what speaker enclosures. How the sound is rated, etc? I ask because in my short time here, it seems that JBL is the most popular brand for woofers. And there are so many, that surely there is a summary of them all somewhere?

I'm looking for a nice pair of 15's and it would be helpful to know what to look for, and if there will be a 10" in the same family for a rear speaker project later down the road.

There are good discussions over at Lansing Heritage, for sure. Plan on spending some quality time learning about the various applications for various woofers.

I agree with Jenkster that the 2235H is an excellent all-around performer with the proper enclosure and crossover.

Take a look at some of the cinema systems JBL has produced over the years as I see a number of theaters being rebuilt with new gear. I've picked up a couple of good JBL enclosures this way.

Just trying, however, to decide from a list is going be really confusing.

Thanks, guys. Kinda figured there would be more info on them than what I'm seeing here.
A 2225 vs. 2226 isn't even something I've been able to find.
Or comparisons against newer 15" like the Dayton Classic.

Agreed! Also, for a little more sensitivity, the 2225H is boss as well. It also happens to share the exact same motor as the 2235H, as well as 2234H and each can be reconed into the other.

2226 has adifferent motor than 2225, so cant be reconed into 2235H. Otherwise, as far as I'm concerned they are interchagable in most applications. The Dayton is a nice driver, but not even in the same league, nor price catagory either!

I'd agree with Russellc, the Dayton Classics aren't in the same league. They have dedicated subwoofer drivers that would be a good deal better with very deep bass than a 2235H. If you want to compare modern drivers to JBL pro drivers, look at 18sound, B&C, Beyma, Paudio, TAD, and AEspeakers for legitimate competitors to the JBL. Most are every bit as spendy as JBL, though.
 
I have both the 2225H and 2235H along with the 4507 (5 ft3) cabinet. The overall sound is the same in the 40 Hz to 800 Hz (crossover point). Same great dynamics. The 2235H out performs the 2225H in the 40 Hz to 30 Hz range. With the 2225H, I needed to raise the volume to a louder level to get the bass "started". Not so with the 2235H. In fact, I play my system at lower levels now with the 2235H installed and tuned to 30 HZ as opposed to the 2225H tuned to 40 Hz.
