JBLapalooza

I just returned from a trip to Tokyo at the invitation of JBL and Harman Japan for the celebration of JBL's 60th anniversary. The key event was the introduction of JBL's highest statement loudspeaker ever produced - the $60,000 Everest DD66000. A photo essay of the entire trip can be found here:

There are six threads in this photo essay - one for each day of the trip. Links to the next and previous days can be found in the last post of each respective thread.

I'd probably have to say those are the most impressive and amazing audio pics I can recall ever seeing!!

Don, sincere thanks for linking that fabulous JBL tour. It's going to take a few days to digest all that I saw.

Simply amazing pics Don.

Thank you so much for sharing those :thmbsp:

Now I'm going to dream of JBL's

Wow! Wonderful pictures Don, thanks so much for sharing. The JBL horns and McIntosh pics are really great. A favorite combo around the world for sure and with good reason. :smoke:

So...umm...Don, did you puke on anybody's shoes?

I looks a lot like the audio scene in Korea, but the Japanese do it better.

The expected next Prime Minister (the current one has given a resignation date) walked by our party in the lobby of the hotel we were staying at. I'm not kidding. There was no security detail or any other indication of his importance. I did manage to remember protocol and directed my chunks at the Harman International delegation instead.

Thanks for posting those superb pics of that beautiful city and all that very cool gear.

I didn't see any pics of the smokers huddled outside the hotels like it was in Lima :D

I'd like to know what camera / lens you used. Excellent pics and artistically well done, archive quality.

Will Harman have copies for posterity?

The pictures were taken with a Canon Rebel XT and one of two lenses: 17-40 F4L, and 70-200 F4L. All shots were hand held with many using sensitivity set to 1600; particularly the "Basie" shots and city lights.

I have never wanted so bad in my life. The shots at bassies should be published. They sure do know how to do it right over there.

Don,

As you know I am a member of this and audio.heritage forums and I know the folks here are happy you posted the link.

Don, all I can say is Wow!

Wonderful photos of great gear and what a beautiful city.

Thanks for the tour.

Great pics!!
It's amazing how much gear you packed into just a few terrific shots, and the scenes of Japan were fascinating.

Incredible photo essay Don, pretty mesmerizing stuff and your great shots really let me get a sense of what you experienced.

I was particularly taken with the pictures from the ‘Basie’ Jazz bar. I would SO love to have a place like that local where you could listen to live Jazz as well as vinyl and SACD (!!!) over such an incredible JBL based ‘house’ system.

This all seemed vaguely familiar as I’ve been fascinated by the way the Japanese view and approach audio and posted about an article I had read that delved into this in the past here - turns out, the ‘Basie’ bar you visited was mentioned in that article.
