Jeff Healey dead at 41

Jeff passed away today here in Toronto after a lifelong battle with cancer, the same that took away his eyesight at age 1 or 2. I remember walking in on him at a small club in the east coast in the 80's and it took me 3 or 4 songs before I realized he was blind. Great guy. Seen him perform many times from clubs to a shared bill with Stevie Ray and Jeff Beck. But even better was catching him at his club playing his real passion, Jazz, with his "Hot 5 jazzmakers"
He also had a great radio program where he would talk up and spin records from his vast record collection. I also heard he has the largest private 78 rpm colletion in the world.
My wife also "starred" in one of his early videos (as, you know, the babe..) and always said he was just a nice guy.

RIP Jeff..

Man what a loss. This just got me like a punch in the gut :sigh:

If there is a heaven, they are having a jam tonite...
 
Wow, what a surprise and so sorry to hear this.

I saw Jeff a few times doing his more popular blues/rock songs at various venues around Toronto but seeing his jazz band in his own club was pretty special.

He will be missed. RIP Jeff.
 
Man. I just don't know what to say. Best Guitar player I have ever seen. Truly a sad day.

Good Lord, I never knew he had cancer! His blindness was something he joked about, but never once did I hear a comment about the other disease.

Waaay too young, and yes, he always sounded warm, open, and very friendly.

Gonna miss him!

I remember seeing him in the movie Road House with Patrick Swayze back in 1989. He played the part of Cody. Although I hadn't heard a lot of material from him at that time, I could immediately tell he was a great blues guitar player.

I also remember when he was nominated for a Grammy.

Very sad news.

Wow, what a loss. I read something a while back that he wasn't doing well but I never expected this. RIP, Jeff. Thanks for all the great music.
