Jennings Research ???

Anyone heard of these ? I think the model is called Contrara Group.

I saw these and they have a gorgeous walnut finish. They are a tower and have a rotating pedestal base.
I bought them on a whim along with some other nice gear. They had the sales brochure with them, that along with the cabs are what made me go for them - the brochure is one slick lookin' presentation, but I'm beginning to think it's hype.
I haven't had a chance to listen to them yet. I will post some pics later.

Hmm, I don't need another set of speakers, yeesh!

I once had a pair of jennings research vector one's paired with a sansui 7070, they were a 10 or 12 inch 3 way system with passive radiator, modern looking cabinets for their vintage, with large rounded corners and blue cloth grills, it's been a long time so i'm not sure on the woofer size. What i do remember is they were a sweet match with the 7070 and really kicked butt, i'd like to hear and possibly own that combination again.

Here's a pic. They are Contrara P's 2 8" woofers and the tweeters look similar to ADS. I think I'm gonna pull the drivers and take a look at the quality of the drivers and xovers tonight, what the heck.

Note: I pulled the drivers - pretty unimpressive, Oh well. Hopefully they sound better than the driver's quality looks.
A little Tung Oil sure prettied up the cabs though.

That veneer is rosewood and BEAUTIFUL!!!!!

Don't let the physical appearance of the drivers fool you, in their day these were not cheap speakers, don't overlook recapping the xovers before you push them too hard, i imagine replacement tweeters are nonexistant.

Let us know how they sound....................... i think you'll be surprised.

AR and KLH drivers are fugly as well but sound excellent so...

It sounds to me like mine have a bit of a "hole" in the upper midrange - hence, I'm guessing bad caps.

Upper treble is nice, though, and the woofers can really "crank it up".

These are in the "let's use two huge woofers and a huge tweeter for lots of sound!" category. In fact, my biggest gripe is that they sound like carp until you crank them so loud you can't really be in the room with them.
