Jensen "Flexair" woofers?

In the Vintage Vanguard
I recently came into possession of this pair of Jensen 15" woofers.

The codes on them say C-15PF. I think that denotes that they are "Flexair" woofers. Is that correct? I know the "P" is a power rating not sure what right now. They both have those cloth accordion surrounds, one orange and one black.

Were these always used in sealed cabinets? Should the surround be porous to a specific degree or what was the deal with the "Flexair" design as opposed to the others? I can't seem to find much specific info on these 15 inchers.

Is anyone familiar with these or have any specs on them?

My later version (1975) Jensen flexair woofers had foam surrounds and came in sealed cabinets.

Yeah I would think that the term "Flexair" would denote movement between front and back of the speaker but that's just what my brain tells me.

These came from a console but the guy who extracted them could not tell me whether it was sealed or not. The most clear info I can find about the Flexair system is in this magazine ad.

I wonder if they are suitable for open backed or ported cabinets.
 
IIRC, most console cabs were not completely sealed in 1958. Maybe in very high end models of the day but not brands like Zenith and Magnavox.

It's a page from a Jensen catalog (#165-G, copyright 1961). There's no reference to the P/N you provided.
 
Thanks for all the great info.

I have some Barzilay cabinets that I'd like to use them in. The guy who I got them from, strips consoles of their innards and uses only the cabinet (that's a switch!) I also got a pair of RP203 metal horn tweeters and some nice tubes as part of the deal.

The frustrating thing is that he threw away the amp, the crossovers and what ever the mid driver was in that set up. I have been trying to get through to him that he should not dump anything from inside before he calls me. I think my weeping and subsequent waving of a couple twenties in front of him might have got through to him this time.
 
Zenith's top line consoles used sealed cabinets and they used a flex-air cone.

A speaker shop once told me that the flex air will work in a sealed or vented/reflex
cabinet but the back of the cabinet must be solid and rigid.
