Jensen TF-3C speakers

Own a pair of the TF-3c's and am happy with them. Placement of these speakers is key. IDK if I got lucky where I put them or what not but bass is super amazing. Have them above my kitchen cabinets on their sides each in a corner. Picked up for 20 as they were "broken". They worked just had oxidation on tabs from sitting. Pots needed to be sprayed but work great once again. Mids do seem to suffer even though there are two 3.5 inch drivers for mids. They look like tweeters though. On one speaker the mids were both blown. I have since repaired the issue. Love floor speakers from the 60's, 70's and 80's. Jensen is my favorite speaker from the 70's. I like the sound their speakers produce.

I have replaced the caps in these speakers. I was not able to find the exact microfarad or volts of either of the two. They are really close. for the 3.9uf @30 volts I got a 4.0uf, and for the 1.8uf @40 volts, I got a 2.2uf. Both of these caps are non polarized and at 50 volts. Are these good replacements with higher specs or should I have went lower.
 
Thank you! Caps made a world of difference in these speakers! I feel these speakers have a full sound to them as the highs are crisp again. Nice and loud too for only 25 watts each. Bass is excellent on these speakers. I feel these speakers need to be in a special location as I had them in the middle of the floor when I first got them and was not impressed with them. Above the cabinets in the Kitchen they produce some excellent music!
 
Ceiling plus corner reinforcement, I'm not surprised you're getting "healthy", "maybe exaggerated" bass ouput. Imaging must leave a lot to be desired with this location I would think.

I had a pair of these early in my audio journey and they did not sound good at all.Probably needed new caps.Should have done what you did.
 
Sperdog the caps did help a lot. I at first did just one and thought I made a mistake by removing the originals, but it sounded better after about an hours use.
Bass output sure is great grenadeslio. The imaging is not ideal however; I am kind of surprised at the sound that is heard with them up above heads. The only thing that seems to suffer would be the midrange, but I think that is because the speakers used as midranges are tweeters. Searching for those bring up tweeters. But just the same, here are some pics of the speakers. Id have the covers removed if these came off, I like no covers on speakers.

I have a pair of TF-3 (not C) mounted in the ceiling in my basement shop. I don't mean hanging FROM the ceiling, I mean IN the ceiling. Between the rafters, pointing downward. No stereo imaging but it keeps them from getting destroyed by lumber or whatever. Mostly use them as extension TV speakers from the big room next door, or for radio, not critical listening. They are nicely built speakers and a blast from the past. They have a plain grille the same as the center of yours but end to end without those dividers.

They are cool looking speakers. Funny you said you put them in the ceiling as I was thinking about doing that to a pair of smaller Jensens in the basement laundry room. You like the sound that way? They really are built great; heavy speakers lol
 
Sounds OK but not much imaging unless one lies on the floor between! But if sound is all that is needed it does OK.
 
Thank you. Figured it wouldn't be optimal as I have Jensen 8" 2 way ceiling speakers in that room currently. Sound is best under them. Tried putting a speaker in the rafters they are too big, I'd have to make something to hold them up. Just going to leave the Jensen ceiling speakers up.
 
My shop walls were just so covered with shelving and pegboard for tools that I didn't have anywhere to mount speaker shelves. One of these days I may try to fix that. Found some Infinity Monitor Jr.'s for free needing foam, and they would easily best the old Jensens on sound if not classy looks, but they're 1/2" too fat to fit in the rafters! :rolleyes:
