JICO Nude Stylus Reviews?

Hello everyone!

As the title suggests - has anyone tried the newer Nude lineup from JICO? I’m mostly interested in the D6800 for my Stanton 681EEE, but any thoughts are appreciated.

I originally ran a JICO Shibata, and currently I’m running the LPGear Vivid Line. Both perform great, but I’m honestly desiring a bit more detail from the VL, and I figured the Nude elliptical would cover that.

I’m not positive I want another Shibata. What do y’all think! Also - the 150 hour lifetime for the Nude elliptical on JICO’s website seems low, any thoughts on that as well?

They are so new that's why there are few reviews. I have seen a small number of reviews on social media for the nude conicals on Shure carts.

I had a Jico shibata with a Pickering grip I ran for awhile on a Stanton 680. Not bad but not quite up to my standards. I'm not sure the elliptical would cut it for me either. Hopefully Jico will introduce more nude styli this year. I know they have a HOMC in the works and maybe they will make some nude HEs and advanced tips for other carts as well.

The 150hr life is based on a preset level of distortion, a level you may or may be able to detect based on your equipment and listening habits. I think for most people double their estimate would be closer to the average life expectancy.

I can;t offer an opinion on their nude tips but IME their typical bonded ones are a cut above the average. Note that I'm referring to the ones sold by Jico, not the 'Jicos' of dubious provenance as sold by others.

Yeah, I figured it was a shot in the dark trying to find reviews. I may just have to pull the trigger myself and be the first to review one on here lol.

I figured the number would fluctuate with all things considered, good to know. And agreed - when I got the Shibata I went directly through Jico, more peace of mind.

What also has me curious is on their website they state:
“The tip angle and round shape are identical to those of a standard bonded tip, while the diameter size is similar in comparison to the SAS series.”

This leads me to wonder, how will that impact the sound? Would this elliptical be closer to a line contact/micro ridge/HE?

Yup, they are talking about the shank of the diamond, which will have less mass than a bonded one. They are not talking about the contact points or shape profile of the diamond.

I asked directly why they don't make one for Stantons. They said it's not possible. Probably due to the way Stantons are constructed. So if you want to try a SAS, the easiest route is going to be to find a Shure cart body that is compatible.
 
While the VL isn't nude it is a fine line as opposed to an elliptical. Bonded fine line versus nude elliptical; I would normally go for the VL but others would surely go for the nude. Not sure whether this helps but what about contacting a retipper, someone like Joseph Long, a former AKer, who can be found as cartridge_retipper_5 (I believe) on ebay. He does retipping work that has been well received and might be worth touching base.

Thank you for the info I appreciate it! I’ve thought about the retipping route, I still have the OG EEE stylus that still sounds good despite obvious signs of use.

At this rate I’ll have a retip, nude, and VL because I’m so indecisive lol. Throw another Shibata on top and I’ll be satisfied. I think.
