Jim Croce

I got in my truck and there was nothing decent on the radio so I hit the play button on the CD changer. Jim Croce starting singing through my speakers. It was a greatest hits CD I had burned from vinyl and forgot it was in there. I really enjoyed listening to his songs. No one was better at painting a picture with words and music than he was. I pictured Jim and Slim, Leroy Brown, Rapid Roy and the Roller Derby Queen. I could hear one less set of footsteps, see him in a phone booth talking to the operator and sloshing around in that car wash.

Your thoughts and other artists that are good at painting pictures?

G'day, Love Jim Croce's music. It was a terrible loss when he went. I was a little to young to have seen him and wish I would have.

We saw Gordon Lightfoot a month or so ago in Minnesota. His voice started off weak but as the concert when on he got stronger and stronger. I think the audience fueled him as they really loved him, me included.

Love Croce. Taken way too soon trying to keep a promise to college kids. Another great artist in the same vein, a Chicago son as well, was Steve Goodman. Great storyteller and songwriter.

Speaking of Chapin, anyone remember "Sequel" ? I was floored the first time I heard that.

Joan Baez and also her buddy what's his name :D

Another one who is great at painting pictures with words is Jimmy Buffett,
As a friend once said "only Jimmy Buffett can make you miss a place you've never been to".

Croce fan here too. I'll have to spin some soon.

My older sister was a big Jim Croce fan when I was eight years old. His stories and pictures appealed to me as a child and as I grew up, his clever imagery stuck with me. The roller derby queen song is quite funny, as is the speedball trucker song where he sings "spent all that night, trying to get right, on an ounce of oregano."

I am kind of fond of Raphael. I liked Leonardo da Vinci work also. Jan Vermeer is cool also.

Croce was a South Philly boy. His wife Ingrid owns Croce's Park West restaurant in San Diego.

Happy trails,
Larry B.
