Jim Morrison: Since we've all been talking about him lately

and The Doors recently released re-masters . . .

and there does seem to be a bunch of fans here . . .

I was wondering about this:

Would you have liked to get drunk with Morrison just to get him talking and try to figure how his mind worked?

I'm sort of in the middle . . . yes, and then maybe no.

What do you think?

Totally.

Personally I think he's one of the sexiest musicans ever.

Whatever anyone ever says, they cannot deny he was a true intellectual and even today I appreciate him more and more.

And when you consider who he really was and from where he came . . it is hard to dismiss him as a "lightweight."

I've never been a huge fan of his poetry, a lot of it can be monotonous, but I've always really just been a fan of him in general. Yes, he was a true intellectual, and he didn't give a **** what anyone else thought.

what "poetry?'

Are you talking about his so called "poetry" books?

or are you talking about his rock lyrics which have been labeled "poetry?"

Most all that stuff they call "poetry" he came up with live on stage and it came off the top of his head at the moment.

Densmore said he'd hit this drumbeat which was Jim's signal to do whatever he wanted. and then Jim just came up with whatever came to his mind.

I think it was great considering most was not rehearshed.

Yes his "poetry" books. Honestly, I think it's crap. I've tried reading it before and I just can't.

I have them all and I agree.

But as a song writer he was beyond good.

And I think that is what bothered him . . . he was beyond the best at writing songs but could not manage to be "a poet."

I can easily deny it. The Doors had a slick schtick; they were a chick band with a veneer of seriousness, a dopey superficial intellectualism that appealed to geeky pot addled guys and star struck girls. But the act was about getting the girls to wet their pants and spend their dough.

Kind'a like the Monkees on acid. But without the honest Show Business talent and enthusiasm.

WOW!

And that comes from a fellow Irishman!

Radical dude!

Thanks for the thoughts!

doors first on my top 10 favorite albums of all time..but I thought Jim was alive somewhere in Oregon???:lmao:

I'm an unabashed Doors fan. I've loved their music since I first heard Light My Fire over 40 years ago.

Thanks for the thoughts!

You're welcome Jim.

Much of the music of that time that I enthusiastic about then seems very dated and shallow to me now. Looking back I think the most honest of the Hippie bands were Moby Grape and Credence Clearwater (and both bands were really more along the lines of "Louie Louie" Rock and Roll bands under the guise of hippies).

Regards

Wake the F up!

He's here in Virginia still hiding in the woods . . we bring him Miller beers and
cheeseburgers . . . surreptitiously and the snake is long

Reading Jim Morrison's poetry makes me wish I was illiterate. I imagine talking to him would make me wish I was deaf.

Note that Credence was the only band that addressed war as an issue of class injustice---"Fortunate Son".

I was pretty disappointed when I learned that no one in CCR was actually 'Born on The Bayou'... Lies...

I'd have a beer with him, but that's probably it. From what I've read, he could be difficult.

Tommy, me boy . . . back in the day I was never a "hippie" in fact I couldn't stand those phony idiots that I considered "useful idiots."

But I did appreciate Morrison . . . I guess because we both came from the same world: Sons of U.S. Navy Officers, not to mention both of us had Irish backgrounds.

Thanks for the input!

as always ...never in agreement with John VF!

To be less obtuse, I think he's insufferable. Like a dimwit jock who gets high and says "dude, what if the solar system is just an atom in the foot of a monkey who's solar system is just an atom in the foot of another monkey?" And then looks around with a sly smile because he thinks he's being really deep.

"Deathwell mystery which makes me write
Slow train, the death of my cock gives life"

Robert Frost he isn't.

I imagine a beer with him would consist of:

Listening to him talk about himself.

Lots of shallow platitudes portrayed as deep thoughts.

Some sort of obnoxious behavior that suggested he didn't get enough attention as a child.

Sweaty leather pants.

I could care less about any of that pseudo intellectual stuff . . . the guy did killer rock songs and that is why i like him.

Who ever has outdone him?
