JJ or Sovtek?

So, it is finally time for new output tubes for my Stromberg Carlson Stereo 60, which takes 4 7027's.

I have had JJ's for over twelve years and they have been faithful performers, clean, strong and detailed. I have heard good things about Sovtek and thought it might be cool to try something different. Price being roughly equal for a matched quad, do you guys think should I jump to the Sovteks? I'm not really a tube roller so this would be another long term investment, especially since I can really only afford one set

Sovtek. I'm not familiar with their 7027, but JJ tubes are so erratic quality wise. I won't buy any more of them
 
I wouldn't buy either brand.
Vintage Sylvania's or RCA's are the most reliable, and aren't wallet-crushingly more expensive than the current production tubes.
 
Hiya,

Old Production 7027's are still somewhat under the radar if you are careful and take your time.

Find the "Metal Based" ones which IMHO have the best construction.

You have used JJ for 12 years, that speaks for itself.
make shure you buy from a decent dealer that matches them correct , this applies for any brand of tube.
 
I do want to acquire NOS over time but I cant be without my baby until then and will need replacements soon. so I'm leaning toward sticking with JJ's. Got lucky last time hope so again
 
My Stereo 60 has GE 6L6GCs in it - sockets are wired to take 6L6 or 7027 pinout (of course I checked before plugging anything else in...).
 
Tom, I know th 6L6 is interchangeable with the 7027. I've read elsewhere that the plate voltage is higher in the latter is that an issue with the SC 60?
 
I actually have seen that Frannie . Good read. Do you think the 7027 was merely a marketing ploy?

Well actually no. The 7027 is a rather interesting tube and was where power tubes were going before solid state wiped them out.

I think it and the 8417 were US answers to the KT88 and if you look at where these tubes mostly were used (7027 and 8417) its about the same place you would use a KT88/6550
