Joe Bonamassa's 10 Underrated Guitarists

I saw way back that someone mentioned Glen Campbell, and I agree that he is one fabulous guitar player.

I also enjoy a fella that never took himself too seriously, yet could play like nobody's business; late, great Jerry Reed.

I haven't been listening to enough Gary Moore and haven't seen this CD before. Thanks for posting this pic and comment. I bought this CD last weekend based on your post and am loving it. Helps that I like Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker too I suppose.

Cheers,
James

Awesome. I finally do some good here .

Ok . Here is one nobody else will list . Paul Reynolds from the first Flock of Seagulls album . Every cliché guitar lick in the world and he makes it work .

I doubt Joe has ever heard of Howard Roberts. Howard wasn't at the top of first-call session players in the 50's & 60's for nothing.

I don't give a hoot about the guitar playing if the song dosen't move me.
Indeed! This is why I have always loved Toy Caldwell's playing. He wasn't technically brilliant, and he didn't do any sort of super fast playing, but he sure put his heart and soul (and thumb) into everything he played. His solo on the live version of "Blue Ridge Mountain Skies" from the "Live From New Jersey" dvd is so mellow and so "pretty", if that term can be applied to guitar playing.
Skip to 2:25 to get to Toy. (Video and audio seem to be out of sync, ugh)

I have never been drawn to Bonamassa's act myself. Guitar players well..... "They come and they go Hobbs, they come and they go."

I did not know that Glen Campbell was part of the Wrecking Crew and worked on Pet Sounds among other things.

I also recall as a young fella being impressed by my old POPS playing Roy Clark records -

Here's one with Roy and Glen together.

Here's a guy that flies under the radar who has some real talent: Caleb Quaye. Did studio work for & or toured with, Elton John, Ralph McTell, Hall & Oates, Pete Townsend, Beach Boys, Harry Nillson, etc. Check your album credits, old Caleb is in there somewhere.
