John Prine LP's sound like crap.

Does this belong in the music forum? If so, sorry.

I have many of John's albums and with the exception of the first two (self-titled and Diamonds in the Rough) all of them sound very bad. Most of them are early pressings. Sweet Revenge sounds the worst. The copy is pristine looking. What's the deal? Does anyone have a nice sounding copy of Sweet Revenge or Common Sense?

Nah its the prine albums. I recently picked up a used copy of a greatest hits compilation and the album looks to be in pristine condition but has very poor sound quality. Which is a shame cuz i love prine. Leaves me no choice to but to listen to the anthology disc set.

I just pulled out my copy of Sweet Revenge, and I have to say I agree with you. Lot's of "bad pressing" noise -- pretty distracting. Bummer.

Edit: still on Side 1. It seems to get better on later tracks. Sounds bad on the first one and a half tracks or so.

I have all of the albums mentioned above. I guess I need to go back and listen, but I don't recall "Sweet Revenge" or "Common Sense" being bad pressings.

I have Common Sense and it sounds OK. I used to work in the industry (back in the '70s). Heard a lot of bad pressings in Q/A. This one sounds OK, but it prefers the AT95e so it may be the groove?
