Jukebox playing too fast

Hi everyone,

My friend just baught this jukebox, it's a NSM prestige 120, it works pretty well considering the price he paid it.

Only problem, it plays a bit too fast (see video) of course this ruines everything.

So I was wondering if any of you had some ideas to fix this. Another thing, he told me that he replaced the only belt with another one supposedly the same size.

If you need some more pictures to help me just tell me where to shoot !

Here's the jukebox

Thanks

Personally, I don't have any experience with jukeboxes (except listening to them):D.

Can you or your friend confirm that the proper size replacement belt is being used? In the video, the belt appears to be riding high in the pulley. That will cause it to run fast.

Anyway, nice looking jukebox.

the belt seems to be the right size, but it could be a little different from the original.
Do we need to try a longer or shorter one to lower the speed ?

Hi,

Google for the Jukebox-List. It's an email list devoted to Jukeboxes, their repair and restoration and use and enjoyment thereof. Join it, post your enquiry and they should be able to assist you. The NSM jukeboxes sound superb and are very easy on records when maintained well. They are not as common in the US and are from Germany!

I don't think changing the length of the belt will have as much effect as will the thickness of the belt. If the belt is too large, it may ride higher in the pulley grooves causing the speed to increase.

I think Kent gave an excellent suggestion.

If it is a round style belt instead of a flat one, the diameter is critical and will change the speed. I just ran into this problem on a Wurlitzer 3300. Someone had replaced it with the wrong diameter(thickness) belt and it didnt sit in the groove just right...changing the pitch so it played slightly faster. Replacing it with a factory spec belt cured the problem. The circumference (length) of the belt isnt as critical except for slippage. You dont want the belt too tight as its hard on the motor bushings. If the NSM uses a flat belt, check the idler and see if its worn. There are plenty of websites on the net for jukebox parts. Check with one of them and get a factory spec belt which should cure the problem.
