looking for a tube amp?
don't forget the old jukebox tube amps
they are heavy duty and made to take abuse
just bought a nice 1990 rowe R94 CD and record combo jukebox for $300 bucks locally:thmbsp:
it has an 135 watt SS amp in it but one channel is distorted, anyway
i want to replace it with an tube amp from an older rowe jukebox and completely restore the amp
has anyone done this before?
i see sometimes these old tube amps on the bay for sale
hopefully i can just swap them out with maybe just a few mods

Most of the late 60's and 70's Rowes that use the mechanical selection mechanism as opposed to the central control computer could use either a tube type power amp with 7868's or a solid state power amp...most seem to use the tube type.
Both tube and solid state models used a solid state phono preamp.
These tube amps seem to provide by far the best sound quality of any jukebox of that time.
The older AMI models from the late 50's to early 60's used a completely tube amp with 6973's that doesn't quite have the oomph of the 7868 model.

The later Rowes using a computer system used a different type of amp so the Rowe tube amp will not be a drop-in replacement, though there is enough room in the case that you can probably adapt it in. You will need the solid state preamp that goes with it.
You will also need to adapt the muting circuit as the tube amp has a relay that activates the 5U4 to provide B+ when the record is playing. We have completely restored several of the Rowe and AMI tube jukeboxes.
