Just Bought an Onkyo A-9050...Wolfson WM8718 Good?

I tend to be a Burr Brown guy, and so I thought I would ask about this DAC chip: the Wolfson WM8718. I believe the Cambridge 640Cv2 I once had had a Wolfson DAC, but that is probably my only experience with this brand. The Cambridge player did have a nice, airy sound, but there are of course other variables involved.

I ask about the Wolfson DAC in reference to the Onkyo A-9050 integrated, which I purchased today. I researched this unit's specs and such, and was impressed--and, hence, I cannot wait for it to arrive. The only concern I have is in regard to the DAC chip.

Thanks very much, TLCW...the DAC chip, though, appears to be a Wolfson, not a Burr Brown. I, too, am becoming an Onkyo fan. The C-7030 has impressed me.

My 7030 impressed me but I shouldn't have bought it. I've transferred all of my CD's to FLAC files on my net server and haven't even turned the 7030 on in the last 6 months.

Too bad, rnorton, as I think you are missing out here. If you are going to keep the 7030, I would at least try it and compare. As I have mentioned elsewhere, I think there is something to the traditional method of "source."

Love my 7030 CD player too.

Back to the 9050, I am interested but not sure how good it is at 4 ohms. The specs really don't say what the power oupt is at 4 ohms and if it can drive that load. My Infinity's need power.

I went with 9070 for exactly that reason, the lack of 4 Ohm power in 9050 to drive the Infinity's...
