Just Broke Glass On iPad

If you are up to it and want to fix it yourself they are not impossible to do. I work for a school system that has lots of them. Ipads and kids you get to replace a lot of the screens. Here is some of the tricks I have learned to use. xacto knife is a must as well as a heat source. You can use a hair dryer or a heat gun made for it, I have a heat gun made for stuff like this. The heat bags with rice in them are suppose to work. Another item that really helps is old credit cards or similar ID cards. We have ID badges and I got a bunch. I heat the glass then pry up one of the areas. I will insert the cards in the area I open up .That keeps it open and keeps it from resticking the glass to the frame. I usually slide in each time I get a area open.
Check out videos out there on you tube. Watch more than one of them and watch them over and over. Another thing to pay attention to I found out is on the videos is to to watch the cable areas they say to be careful with. If you cut the film to the switches you will have to replace them as well. It will tell you to cut the cable to the glass which is fine but don't do it to other cables. Heat is your best friend in the areas of the cable.

. I have a few places but etech is the best for just one or two repairs. I do so many I made a jig I can clamp on my workbench that cradles them. You can get a similar effect by clamping a board to a workbench then but the ipad up to it. So that way the Ipad won't slide. You will need at least the glass and the tape to stick it back on if the glass does not have it. . I use a adhesive remover to clean the sticky residue off the case. after its clean I attach the cable of the glass to the ipad but I do not remove the plastic that covers the adhesive. I do a dry test first. I will place the glass on the case then take scotch tape and place on the glass and over the case around the edges. I then will see if it turns on, you can click items,check wireless and other functions. Then when I am satisfied I will pull the scotch tape off and peel the adhesive cover off and lay it down.
I have done so many I have lost count. If every thing works out good I can get it repaired in less than a hour. We had a Apple rep tell us in a meeting that htey could not be repaired except by sending it back to the factory. I laughed and he asked what was funny. I told him I had done about 2 or 3 that day. He said you can't and my boss said he does it all the time and they work great. Apple was trying to sell us insurance that was a "low" cost for repairing them. I figured out I could do it at a cheaper price than they could. Anyway watch the videos and try it. Its not the worst one I have done, I did a new ipod this summer that was a lot worse. I didn't know if I was going to get it to work.
