Just discovered Qucs for Mac

I just found a source for an open source circuit simulation program for Mac PowerPCs.

If you don't already have it then you need to download the Qt3 package first. Then download Qucs. It is not as easy to get started with as LTspice but it looks to be very powerful. For example you can't just select dB for graphing. You have to define an equation using their built in voltage dB function and then graph that. However, this means that there is an extremely versatile capability of doing major calculations automatically.

The other downside to this like most open source programs is the pathetic (essentially nonexistent) documentation. I had to google around for quite a while to come up with some helpful tutorials.

It is not based on spice but it looks like it has the capability of importing spice sub-circuits so we should be able to come up with a way to get tube models converted over eventually.

Here is my first fully successful simulation. It took me several hours to get to the point that I understood it well enough to knock this out. Learning curve ya know. ;)

Oh, BTW, while you are there they also have enGauge for the Mac which is nice for working out load lines. It basically digitizes graphics. You import a gif of the curves and then define the origin and one point on each axis. Then you can draw a load line and use the mouse to pick off data points for your power and distortion calculations.
